"Intensive care settings are not settings you want to be [in]." With so much discussion around Alberta's ICU bed numbers, we asked two experts what makes ICU beds different - and what patients can expect if transferred into one. #yeg
So, we’ve reached 34 deaths per day from COVID. It’s a shocking number that really gets swamped over by all the other numbers. I’m going to describe the usual dying process in the ICU from this disease. I’m wearing my clinical hat, be warned.
Does the vaccine work?
1 out of every 789 unvaccinated Albertan 12+ is currently in hospital with COVID.
1 out of every 11,894 vaccinated Albertan 12+ is in hospital with COVID.

To ensure a safe environment for fans, eliminate unnecessary contact at entry gates & accelerate fan entry into the arena, the @NHL & #RogersPlace have implemented a No Bag Policy that prohibits all bags from being brought into the building.
Dear non-healthcare peeps: RNs & MDs being redeployed for ICU: really bad. ICU is a special, high-intensity place staffed by specialist drs and nurses. You can't just plop any nurse or doc in there and expect great outcomes regardless of their best efforts. We're in big trouble.
A thread. My mother was a smoker. A dedicated, passionate smoker. She wasn’t just an addict. She loved the coolness of smoking. She loved cigarettes as fashion accessories. She loved the conviviality of hanging out with other smokers. And for years, she would not quit.
I’m not sure what’s more sad at this point, all the people in our hospitals dying from COVID, or all the other people in our hospitals dying from other things because our hospitals are so full of people dying from COVID.
A story about why you choosing not to get vaccinated impacts more than just you:
Three weeks ago, I found a lump/something in my breast. I went to my doctor, who said it needed to be investigated. I called to book a mammogram that day.
