@MariaEmmerich@Dr__Guess You are both two women I respect greatly. @MariaEmmerich I have sent many copies of your books to people and @Dr__Guess I have read your papers. If a person is getting an unusually high spike from eating something like blueberry (without a clear insulin response) that’s a prob!
@MariaEmmerich@Dr__Guess A glucose spike during exercise is not the same as when you eat some sugar.
I think we are missing the forest for the trees. Black people have a higher rate of diabetes and insulin resistance and it’s certainly not caused by working out or eating berries.
@Dr__Guess Like you stated, it’s individualized nutrition and very much like individualized medicine the focus is in the patient and not the blueberry!!
The goal of these companies is to step away from standardized diets that may not work for everyone. Insulin resistance leads to…..??

"When we controlled for factors such as emotional eating habits and the level of perceived stress, perceived sugar intake had significantly less effect on blood glucose levels."
What will wearable tech look like in 5 years time?
Non-invasive devices will:
• Be accurate enough to refer people to doctors or specialists for further diagnostics (e.g., MRI, blood tests)
• Measure new things: glucose, immune activation, fatigue, blood circulation etc.
I wore an Oura ring & a Whoop band on the same hand/wrist for ~12 months.
Here's everything I found... 🧵
TLDR:
- Whoop isn't accurate enough to be useful. I took it off.
- Oura is better. I'm still wearing it.
- Beware readiness/recovery scores - raw data are more insightful.
In this clip from episode #202, I discuss the difference between the Recommended Dietary Allowance for protein and how much protein we should likely be consuming to thrive.
In an upcoming episode, I’ll take a deep dive into protein with an expert on the topic. Stay tuned.
