What we saw in Gaza, was utterly heartbreaking. Our teams continue to call for more humanitarian access and the protection of civilians.

I visited Gaza today, where I witness the catastrophic and utterly dire conditions first hand. What I saw reiterated that civilians, medical facilities and our Red Cross and Red Crescent teams need protection. Our teams need access to deliver vital-lifesaving humanitarian aid.

Amidst this tragedy, I also saw hope and dedication too. From the round the clock medical support to special programs for children who’ve lost everything, the @PalestineRCS staff and volunteers show unwavering support in the most difficult circumstances imaginable.

We also saw the great and complex work of the @EG_Red_Crescent in these challenging circumstances.

What I took away from today’s visit is that this crisis isn’t just about numbers, this is about people and their need for dignity and protection. We must protect the most vulnerable.

Today I met with @IsraelPresident @Isaac_Herzog to express my sympathies for people & families impacted by the events of Oct. 7. We discussed the important work of @Mdais, the need for greater access to deliver critical humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the importance of protection for civilians, our staff and volunteers & our emblem. We continue to reiterate our call for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages.

When I was an @ifrc delegate in Türkiye, I met so many people whose lives were shattered in Hatay. This story of rebuilding and resilience is what the Red Cross/ Red Crescent is all about. And I love that the barber, Fikret, is helping kids! Great story, @Kizilay ❤️

I love this story from @RedCrescent about Fikret Demirkol — a children's barber in Hatay, Türkiye. Before the devastating earthquakes struck on Feb. 6, Demirkol was a hairdresser. @IFRC and @Kizilay provided him with financial assistance to reopen and rebuild his business.
