The vibrant, small-scale retail on our city’s main streets support our local economy and vibrant, walkable, affordable and successful neighbourhoods.
Unfortunately, we’re losing these cherished streetscapes to the all too familiar block-killing banks, giant dentist offices…
@JoshMatlow thank goodness someone is thinking about this, it makes all the difference in the world to whether a block is a place you want to be or a place where you only go when you have to.
I want the Yonge & Eglinton intersection to be safe and functional. And those of us who know it understand how long it takes to even get across it. At the upcoming City Council meeting, I’m asking to finally create a pedestrian scramble to make it work. https://t.co/4Fnm4KjTFQ
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them.
While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change.
And they’re right.
@PrabSarkaria Serious people cite their sources and highlight potential issues with them (like being out of date or not the exact scope of what should be considered) Are you going to do that?
@criticalurban If they take out the bike lane on Bloor, I will ride on Harbourd instead, and I'll bike along and frequent those businesses instead those on Bloor.
It's really that simple
@joe_warmington@TorontoPolice i think if the cops were actually good at their job they’d be able to track down the guy and arrest him without the injuries to innocent bystanders, the potential for death, and all the property destruction.
@MackMcColl222@acoyne Well it's already November 1st and 6 months from now is May 1st...are we already buried in snow?
Is the snow in the room with us right now?
@RichardCityNews I visit lots of businesses on bike lanes because that's my primary mode of transportation. If they get taken out, I will be taking alternate routes, and I will spend my money at stores that are on the remaining lanes. It's really that simple.
@jen_keesmaat the most wild part to me is that the yonge st bike lanes are so successful in SPITE of the fact that they don't currently make it up to the big population center and new bike lanes on Eglinton. If that gap was closed we'd see ridership rivaling any lanes in the city.
@fordnation There were dozens of public consultations on each of these bike lanes before during and after their construction.
Are you really just going to take them out without ANY public consultation at all?
Ah the privilege of making infrastructure for cars. The support is assumed.
@PrabSarkaria How about giving up to date data for the specific area you're talking about rather than 2016 data that includes a ton of suburbs?
Also, I don't commute by bike, but I still use these bike lanes nearly every day for other traveling purposes. Should I not count?
@tonydc1961@donnelly_b Sorry to hear that canadians are so weak. I moved here from wisconsin and I bike year round without a problem. I guess wisconsinites are just made of sterner stuff than you...
@fordnation I would commute by bike...IF THERE WAS A BIKE LANE. Huge swaths of the city still dont have a single good route to get around by bike, and we're not going to get that network by taking out what little we have.
@PrabSarkaria "Work with" ? You're just tying their hands. Why do you think you know what's better for cities than the cities themselves? Please please please focus on making intercity transit better.
