@PatMcGorry The NDIS has people with schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, CPTSD. Could you share your references for the early intervention preventing disability for these diagnoses please?
@muriel_cummins@criprights @SquigglyRick Thanks Muriel. It would be a trauma informed practice for the government to have the assessment completed by someone who is the participants choice. This will result in increased trust , safety and better information.
@muriel_cummins@criprights @billshortenmp @EveryAustralian@VMIAC@ahpapolicy "To draw on expertise in the mental health system, the NDIA should encourage organisations with a focus on people with severe and permanent mental illness to provide navigation and early intervention .... (p523 analsyis)
@muriel_cummins@criprights @billshortenmp @EveryAustralian@VMIAC@ahpapolicy Read #NDISreview Supporting Analysis page 520 for "details" of the 3 year early intervention proposal for psychosocial disability. Too many unmet needs to mention! No definitions/detail eg for professional services
I agree & am very concerned too. People with psychosocial disability need & deserve a system that is designed to meet their needs, through co-design, innovation, extensive literature review. Then this design has to be clearly articulated. This has not occurred in #NDISreview
@criprights Urgent discussion needed on the proposed 'early intervention ' diversion for people with psychosocial disability- ?rationale, ?evidence, & ?rights-based lens? Not enough justification from the NDIS Review- very concerning @billshortenmp @EveryAustralian@VMIAC@ahpapolicy
Auditory processing disorder is also frequently experienced by many people with psychosocial disability. It is often overlooked, as with so many aspects that are not 'episodic'. We need an @NDIS that can rise to these challenges, not 'divert' people from essential supports
'We are distressed to hear your understanding of psychosocial disability is that it is somehow less deserving...under the NDIS than other disabilities. Nothing could be further from the truth'
Equal rights for psychosocial disability, @billshortenmp. https://t.co/2Bewczgb5F
@muriel_cummins@NdisReview @billshortenmp I agree Muriel. It is not equitable to discriminate on the basis of what type of disability a person has. @billshortenmp https://t.co/c29yAAS0pu
🧵Tears will not cut it. When the #DisabilityRoyalCommission hands down their final report at the end of this month, the disability community and I call on the the government to ensure these 3 actions…
NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission investigation finds *independent* ( ie not also delivering direct support) disability intermediaries are protective against risk of exploitation. We recommended ensuring impartiality of SC, RC's in our submission: https://t.co/qmW5hKin6c
A somato-cognitive action network alternates with effector regions in motor cortex . Great to see this research - so clever to review old concepts https://t.co/7lXNcTvZyZ
#Sensoryemotionregulation =#sensorymodulation this is a good article but I disagree that "no work has directly examined the role of sensation as a relatively effortless regulatory tool". OTs have been discussing its roles for years #sensoryprocessing https://t.co/OxKwL2t1uF
Really like the modest and well being approach of Julie o’Sullivan and Carolyn Fitzgibbon in their #SensoryModulation 2018 book
Note- this is not sensory integration therapy
It’s self management, #OccupationalTherapy and humanistic approach - people are whole
