New Zealand is deeply concerned about the significant earthquake in Vanuatu, and the damage it has caused.

Our thoughts are with the people and authorities of Vanuatu.

We are monitoring the developing situation closely, and are in contact with the New Zealand High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Nicci Simmonds, and her team.

Our High Commission building, which is co-located with the United States, France and the United Kingdom, has sustained significant damage.

There are 45 New Zealanders registered on SafeTravel as being in Vanuatu, though we expect there will be more who are not registered.

New Zealanders in Vanuatu should follow the advice of authorities and be prepared for aftershocks. We are also aware there are communication outages in Vanuatu at present.

Anyone in need of consular assistance should contact the 24/7 emergency consular line on [phone] as soon as they are able.

We stand ready to help Vanuatu, and to respond to requests for assistance.

New Zealand remains gravely concerned about the ongoing impact of the Israel-Hamas conflict on civilians. At Egypt’s humanitarian conference for Gaza on 2 Dec 🇳🇿 announced a further NZ$7.5m in funding for responses in Gaza & the West Bank. Our funding will go to @WFP & @UNICEF in support of emergency food and assistance for vulnerable children. This brings our total support to the response to NZ$29.5m.

The protection of civilians, humanitarian and medical workers is paramount & a requirement of international law. Israel must do everything in its power enable rapid, safe, & unimpeded humanitarian access.
