Sources: President Trump, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House task force head Andrew Giuliani put together a team of elite lawyers — from outside the government — to challenge the Flo Balogun red card. Specifically they challenged the use of slow motion instant replay to give the red card, which they argued violated FIFA rules. The president also conveyed to Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president, that the appeal had been filed and he believed the red card penalty was excessive. FIFA’s independent committee reviewed the decision and agreed the penalty was incorrectly given, rescinding it under their rule 27 authority.

The scenes are going to be breathtaking. 🤯❤️
Breaking: Folarin Balogun will be available to play in USA's Round of 16 match against Belgium on Monday, FIFA announced.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has suspended the red card issued to the USA striker during their Round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dear FIFA,
I assume you watched the France vs. Paraguay match. The referee, Ilgiz Tantashev, delivered a truly unacceptable performance. This is a football match, not a boxing or MMA fight.
Elbows, punches, and countless brutal challenges went completely unpunished. I'm not even talking about your overall card policy anymore—this level of officiating is simply unacceptable. It's a disgrace. The French players have families too.
The fact that Paraguay went the entire 90 minutes without receiving a single card, despite repeated violent challenges and even confrontations between players, is impossible to justify. This referee seems to think that refusing to show cards is some kind of achievement.
What's even more unbelievable is that he didn't have the courage to book Paraguay's players even when five of them deliberately surrounded and blocked the penalty spot.
Either this referee had money on the match, or something else was going on. It was an absolute joke. @FIFAcom@FIFAWorldCup
