@jon_wertheim@NPR Thanks for sharing… great memory. I followed Andy his whole career and barely remember this. Frank Deford was right… no headlines for good sportsmanship
@TennisPodcast Jack offered to replay the point… the umpire ignored him. My take is he may have thought it hit his racquet first and assumed he lost the point, then the umpire said it didn’t, and then he probably thought, “well… maybe it didn’t…?” Very hard at this level to give away a point
@jon_wertheim Well said… this has always been true to some degree, but it seems like the latest generation of college players are arriving on tour particularly well prepared… maybe like never before
@DavidLawTennis@TennisPodcast Watched him grow stronger, faster, so much range in his game. Excited (as an American!) for a Brit to possibly win Wimbledon just so everyone could quit talking about it! And then he did… and we could all be happy and keep watching Wimbledon :)
@DavidLawTennis@TennisPodcast Fantastic column. I’m 51, lived through all of Tim Henman. Remember the growing rumor that Scotland has a kid. Talented, this could be big. Saw him at Indian wells… maybe 2005… 2006? Pale, massive hair, gigantic ground strikes, looked like he probably needed to get in shape!
@DavidLawTennis David, great point. I’m on the west coast (Portland, OR)… realizing this morning that I totally missed that match. Seems like a poor decision given that Coco’s a big potential ratings win for the U.S. Hope her next round scheduling is better!
@BenRothenberg That is really terrible. The commentators awkwardly joking about how you can’t see the technique. Good gracious… close the roof, improve camera light balance, something… Totally useless to broadcast
