Another day, another database hack. How are we still letting these happen?

We just sent @bluesky our take on linking websites + social + NFTs with decentralized identifiers that have signing keys. Thank you for having such a fun challenge!

And attempts to raise that ceiling by reverting to reliance on centralized identity providers/verifiers negates much of the spirit of the endeavor in the first place.
Too unlock the true potential of NFTs we must solve the decentralized identity problem.

But verifying the authorship of an NFT in a decentralized way is pretty difficult because it is fundamentally a problem with identity and not with art or media. There is a ceiling on how valuable and useful these NFTs can be until that problem is solved.

However, this seems like it is simply leaning into centralization and only further entrenches Opensea's power in the NFT space.
When it comes to art and social NFTs, *AUTHORSHIP MATTERS*. In many cases, it matters more than the NFT itself.

I think we often forget that a huge part of @opensea's value is in their *centralized* identity/authorship verification.
I've seen some suggestions that the twitter feature above could also integrate with the OS api to check if the NFT was from a verified collection.

From the conversations I've observed on Twitter, it seems like people want not only to use their NFTs as pfps but ALSO prove that their pfp isn't a fake. I think that second part gets overlooked much of the time.

All of the fraudulent NFTs out there right now are (at a code level) legitimate NFTs. I can re-mint @TrustlessState's punk and use is as my own pfp if I want to and this feature might be seen as granting me some sort of false sense of legitimacy.
