Smt. Sowcar Janaki is one of the most respected senior artistes of Indian cinema, with an extraordinary body of work spanning 400 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam cinema over seven decades.

In recognition of her distinguished and lifelong contribution to Indian art and cinema, she was conferred the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2022 at New Delhi.

Actor Dhanush has donated a newly constructed three-storey concrete building to a School in Chennai, where he studied from LKG to Class 10. Built at his own expense, the new structure replaces an older roofed building and has been named the "Dhanush Block."

The building was inaugurated on Wednesday in the presence of Dhanush, his schoolmate and cinematographer Kumaran, members of the 1999 batch, and his sisters, Karthika Devi and Vimalageetha.

In an emotional moment, Dhanush touched the feet of his former teachers to seek their blessings and posed for photographs with them. Kumaran and his wife, Lakshmi Krupa, who were also Dhanush's classmates from LKG through Plus Two, attended the ceremony.
