I don't know what this is. I suspect it's AI generated. I don't know why it looks vaguely familiar. It's kinda bothering me to be honest.
Why does everything AI generates feel like a dreamscape?
Casey, this was an absolute banger! I feel so strongly about this video, that I'm going to write about it, because you are totally right.
We have to understand what led to the bad parts of the internet if we want to avoid the same fate with AI. Good corporate leadership should include responsibility. But sometimes people who are responsible can't fathom it. I have a few terrifying examples of this from history to whip out.
Wow, I think I need this in my life. Finally some coding challenges that are legit. If you have tried these let me know how it is. https://t.co/QZdQKPgAYV
You know, that's a good point. I should update my prediction to be more comprehensive: AI will replace somewhere between 0% and 100% of the work involve in between 0% and 100% of all jobs within the next five to fifty years.
The backend is harder than the frontend.
The tooling is more complicated. The validation is harder. The number of tasks that each completed task produces is higher. The technology shifts more frequently and moves faster.
Mostly down the tubes. Weโve roped a wild stallion that has the potential to become a great racehorse; but we havenโt broken it yet. So it leaps around chaotically throwing its riders on the ground and breaking its corral walls.
There are quite a few of us, trying to figure out how to channel that wild stallionโs energy and directed it towards the race.
Stay tuned.
Crazy to me that Spec Driven Development with executable acceptance tests hasnโt gotten more traction. It really seems like the only way to go. Cucumber is making a comeback!
I feel like 40% margins is actually indicative of a broken market. Meta should be willing to take much lower margins and laying off people at a time like this is gross.
They really couldn't find more and better software to have all those people build and accept 35% instead of 40% for a few years? Shameful.
It's because of the stock price and their margins.
Their margins were something like 40% last year. That's what keeps the stock price so high, because investors love those fat margins.
This year, they are spending a ton of money on infrastructure. That spend doesn't go against their margin yet. Right now it's cash getting turned into PPE assets, so it looks like they haven't lost any money. But next year, those assets start depreciating and that hits their retained earnings. When it does, their margin will decrease from 40% and then the stock price will dump.
If they lay off people now they can save their margin next year and save the stock price.
Zuck wants to keep the stock price high because that's how he and a lot of people at the company get paid.
This has been happening to me, but not as extreme. Iโm still getting sleep! Although the temptation to sacrifice that is real.
The weird thing is that after prompting for a few hours I find myself simultaneously wanting to go back to get more done, and also hating myself because I donโt really understand what I just wrote and I feel helpless asking the bot to โfix plz, no mistakes.โ
It really is an addiction in that way.
Nothing like a good ole addiction to make you feel good and hate yourself at the same time.
Every time I waste the night staring at a screen, the next night I spend reading a good book. And then I realize how much better life would be if we all read a good book more often. It's a better use of time. Signing off.
@github Iโm predicting a growing movement of self hosted everything companies. โThe cloud is too expensive and complex. Enterprise version control canโt be trusted. Letโs just do it ourselvesโ types.
And they might not be wrong? There are some attractive looking options.
I feel bad for him, but also youโd think heโd pick a more careful topic. The optics around AI are not good right now, especially for newly graduated students! Nobody wants to hear about how they will get replaced after spending all that money on school. And even if thatโs not what heโs saying thatโs what they will hear.
