It was a distinct honour to join the Head of Development Cooperation at the British High Commission; Cynthia Rowe, at the High-Level Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the National Youth Policy, convened by the British High Commission in collaboration with the Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative.

This dialogue was held at a moment when the architecture of Nigeria's next youth policy cycle is being actively shaped.

As the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, (Delivery and Monitoring), I had the privilege of engaging a distinguished gathering of government representatives, development partners, and youth civil society leaders on the substantive questions that will determine whether the next National Youth Policy succeeds where previous frameworks fell short.

Our conversation centred on three priorities; a financing architecture sufficiently robust to convert policy targets into funded programmes, a monitoring and evaluation framework rigorous enough to produce genuine accountability rather than procedural compliance, and a model of youth participation that extends meaningfully into implementation and oversight rather than concluding at the point of consultation.

Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, the empowerment of young Nigerians has always been treated not as a rhetorical commitment but as a structural priority embedded within the governance design, and my Office always reflects a deliberate intention to ensure that monitoring and delivery remain constant features of how youth policy is executed rather than occasional exercises undertaken at the close of a policy cycle.

I commend the British High Commission and the Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative for the seriousness and rigour with which this dialogue was convened, and I look forward to continued engagement as the recommendations emerging from the discussions inform the next phase of National Youth Policy design.
