On this day 25 years ago I reported to APD HQ on Mill Road for my first day of work in the 911 Center. It’s been one crazy ride with many adventures. I’m truly grateful for it all and the opportunities its afforded me to care for my family. Thank you Alexandria! 💜
It’s #ElectionDay. Follow @CDCgov safety guidance to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 if you're in-person voting:

🔹 Wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer before/after voting
Today is our 150th Anniversary! Thank you to all of our current and former employees--your work & dedication has meant so much to us. The image is the earliest known pic (1883) of APD. It shows 17 officers standing in front of the building that housed the Department until 1959.
It is with a heavy heart and deep regret, we report the passing of former Alexandria Chief of Police Charles Samarra. He was our Chief of Police for sixteen years from 1990-2006. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
On Dec. 16, 1974, Gwendolyn Robbins became the first African American woman police officer in Alexandria. After a successful career, she retired as a Lieutenant in April 1996. She was loved by the community and referred to as "Christie Love" #AlexPD150th#BlackHistoryMonth2020
During #BlackHistoryMonth we will recognize the trailblazers in APD's history. APD's first black Officer was Al Beverly who was also the first in the #DMV
In 2005 we celebrated the 40th anniversary of Al's courageous breakthrough #AlexPD150th https://t.co/jqmqgqkf73
A round of applause is in order! Our police cruisers are decked out for the 150th Anniversary of the Alexandria Police Department! Looking very nice indeed! If you see our new #AlexPD150th logo, snap a pic and tag us!
ASO honoring the memory and sacrifice of our fallen brother Deputy William G. Truesdale, killed in the line of duty on this day in 1981. #NeverForget https://t.co/uXjMQaLa8B
Community policing is rooted in our history & is a mission that continues today. In 1947 APD Officers purchased 97-Acres to start Alex. Police Youth Camp. Thx to the Christmas Tree sales supporters, camp continues to serve our youths because of you. #AlexPD150th#FlashbackFriday
