We commend President Trump for addressing the abuse of the H-1B system, where Indian immigrant workers are too often exploited for cheap labor by unscrupulous employers. Our concern, however, is for those who are already here, individuals who have built lives in the United States, purchased homes, paid taxes, and are raising children, many of whom are U.S. citizens. It is vital that this proclamation not be applied in a way that forces law-abiding, skilled immigrants and their families into deportation. We will continue working with the administration to ensure a path to permanent residence for these individuals, while also supporting reforms to prevent future abuses of the H-1B program.

The dark secret of U.S.-India immigration policy? Both sides benefit from keeping skilled immigrants in limbo. The U.S. exploits them as indentured tech workers. India welcomes them back as innovators. Trump and Modi won’t discuss this—but I did

H1B reform will not happen by being racists towards Indians. It will just not happen that way.
My personal experience from meeting a red state Congressman (freedom caucus member & very anti immigration) few years ago. These were his words:
"Its good that you guys are atleast here legally and contributing to our economy. We will be having a very very different conversation right now, if you were illegal"
So how will we get reforms?
Understand who are the real perpetrators of the issues with H1B program:
- Shady companies (especially bodyshops)
- Shady lawyers
Build coalitions with people impacted by the issues (H1B abuse, greencard backlog).
Be really color blind pro-merit, not anti-India for random reasons (avg IQ, street cleanliness etc).
Focus on the actual data (not made up ones to suit one's narratives). Call out the good aspects, while highlighting the negatives.
Engage constructively, and more importantly, be wary of those who have a vested interest to hijack your narrative for anti-India, anti-Indian rants all day long.
In my new op-ed for @CityJournal I argue that we must end DEI in immigration.
In the war for merit and against "diversity, equity, and inclusion" the immigration system is the ultimate battle.

It is absolutely necessary to create a system that treats people equally under the law instead of discriminating and giving preferential treatment based on immutable characteristics like country of birth.
Diane is far more blunt, yet more eloquent.
Wanting a quota simply for being X (race/national origin/color of hair, eyes or other immutables) is DEI.
Woke right wants DEI - quotas simply for existing.

@elonmusk@SpeakSamuel@libsoftiktok We support reform of H1B to make it merit based from the current lottery system. AND we need reform for green card system based of merit and not country of birth. End all country of birth quotas in Employment immigration
