From Dialogue to Commitment: A Roadmap for Women’s Leadership in Somalia
Thread:
From dialogue to commitment.
Our Interactive Roadmap Café brought together diverse voices to confront the barriers limiting women’s leadership in Somalia—and to define clear, actionable solutions. #SOMGEM
Sustaining progress requires unity across generations.
We must connect experienced advocates with emerging leaders to keep the movement strong and evolving. #SOMGEM
Change starts early.
Gender inequality is rooted in everyday norms—from households to institutions. Transforming mindsets is part of transforming leadership. #SOMGEM
Breakout 4: Advancing Women’s Economic Empowerment and Rights

Breakout 2: Enhancing Governance, Service Delivery, and Institutional Accountability
Weak coordination, clan dynamics, and political imbalance limit women’s participation. Reform must focus on implementation, not just policy.

1/ Breakout 1: Advancing Women’s Leadership and Political Participation
Women remain underrepresented due to structural, cultural, and financial barriers. Participants called for affirmative action, stronger accountability, and political mobilization to achieve the 30% quota.
From research and data to cultural advocacy and confidence-building for young girls—#SOMGEM delivered a holistic vision for change.
Now, the responsibility is shared: government, civil society, and communities must act.
