Fascinating argument by Bloomberg's top energy analyst Javier Blas 👇: he argues that China effectively saved the world economy during the Iran war by absorbing the brunt of the global oil supply shock on its own, without visible economic damage.

According to his calculations, China "cut its average daily waterborne oil imports by the same amount as the combined oil consumption of Germany, France and the UK."

And, still according to Blas, they "did so without suffering economic harm" because they could rely on many levers: their huge strategic petroleum reserve, a massive surge in EV usage, their remaining coal-fired electricity capacity, and coal-to-chemicals replacing lost feedstocks.

Had China not been ready to absorb that blow, a good argument can be made that the economic damage to the West, and the world at large, would have spiraled far beyond what we saw.

Effectively, China's energy strategy at all levels (petroleum reserves, EVs, etc.) and its ability to withstand huge supply shocks paid off for everyone, not just for them.

It sounds awfully familiar: in 2008 too it was China's stimulus package and continuous buying of US Treasuries that averted a complete breakdown of the global financial system.

So twice in 20 years the country the West loves to present as a "threat" to the global economy effectively saved it from a US-made global economic disaster 🤷

This is interesting: contrary to what the media are widely reporting, the delay in the gigantic Power of Siberia 2 pipeline project from the West of Russia to China isn't a matter of price, but of agreeing on the route.

This is according to Boris Titov, chairman of the Russian side of the Russia-China Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development: "This is not the matter of price as many mass media outlets wrote, that we cannot negotiate the price. The issue is not with that. The issue relates more to logistics. Making a proper decision on the route of this gas pipeline."

The negotiations on the route are especially complex because they do not only involve China and Russia but also Mongolia, through which the pipeline would transit.

This pipeline would be immensely consequential not only for China but - perhaps even more so - for Europe as well, as it permanently redirects gas from Russia's West Siberian fields (Yamal) eastwards. Those same gas fields that previously fed Europe via Nord Stream and the Yamal-Europe corridor.

In other words, once there's a final decision on Power of Siberia 2 - and it looks like there'll be soon - Europe's access to cheap Russian gas won't be just politically blocked, it'll be physically gone.

Wow, this is a huge and - rare for France these days - a genuinely good move: France's intelligence services (DGSI) are terminating their contract with Palantir in favor of a domestic alternative (source: https://t.co/yaIu2cqLMT).

I posted about this multiple times. See post below for instance, which Palantir officially replied to, calling my take "insane" (https://t.co/9AlYKZ31qH), where I called it a "complete dereliction of duty" for France to use Palantir as the "central software architecture" for their intelligence services. As I wrote, it's completely incoherent with any notion of sovereignty.

Looks like my "insane" take wasn't so insane after all 😉

And, by the way, ALL countries currently using Palantir should do the same: you are, quite simply, not a sovereign country if you let your national data infrastructure depend on the goodwill of a company with such a clear political agenda.

At this stage this isn't even a sovereignty question, it's a sanity test.

Per me questo significa solo una cosa: sto andando nella giusta direzione.
Le persone ascoltano quello che dico, vedono la verità sulla Russia, e nell'Unione Europea questo li spaventa davvero.

Quindi continuerò la mia missione. Perché, a quanto pare, sta funzionando! 🇷🇺

Il y a quelque chose qui m’inquiète.

Depuis quelques mois, j’entends la même phrase revenir encore et encore. Pas une fois. Pas deux fois. Des dizaines de fois.

“Si rien ne change en 2027, je partirai.”

Ceux qui me disent ça ne sont pas des spéculateurs ou des touristes fiscaux. Ce sont des entrepreneurs qui se lèvent tôt, qui ont créé des emplois, payé des impôts, pris des risques, traversé des crises, construit des entreprises, fondé des familles. Des gens qui aiment la France. Des gens qui auraient préféré réussir ici.

Le plus tragique, c’est que ce ne sont pas les moins attachés au pays qui pensent partir. Ce sont les plus engagés. Ceux qui ont essayé. Ceux qui se sont battus. Ceux qui ont encaissé les coups. Année après année. Contrôles, normes, charges, fiscalité, mépris. Ils sont simplement arrivés à un point de rupture.

Alors ils regardent ailleurs.

Comme les pionniers qui traversaient l’Atlantique parce qu’ils voyaient davantage d’opportunités derrière l’horizon que chez eux. Ils ne partent pas par rejet. Ils partent parce qu’ils pensent pouvoir respirer ailleurs.

Beaucoup de responsables politiques ne mesurent pas ce que cela signifie. Quand un entrepreneur part, ce n’est pas seulement un contribuable qui s’en va. Ce sont des emplois futurs. Des investissements futurs. Des innovations futures. Des réseaux. De l’expérience. De l’énergie. Une partie du potentiel du pays qui monte dans l’avion.

Le drame, c’est que ceux qui partiront seront souvent ceux dont la France a le plus besoin.

Ceux qui bâtissent.
