i regret to inform you that personal growth rarely comes from acquiring new knowledge and almost always from:
- getting humiliated
- showing up terrified and doing it anyway
- admitting you might be the problem
I know a guy who dropped ~$100 million on the most ridiculous ranch you can imagine
Hundreds of pristine acres, all the toys you could want
The American dream on steroids.
All of that just to underperform the average Europoor in life satisfaction.
Study la douceur de vivre:
- Small well-built home with character near town instead of an isolated McMansion.
- Long lunch with friends extending into coffee instead of a rushed lunch while "banging out emails."
- Frequent outdoor activity instead of gym classes under fluorescent lights.
- Daily visits to the local market instead meal prepping a whole week on Sunday.
- Apéro in the garden before a homemade meal instead of last minute Uber eats & Netflix.
- Windows open to let in fresh breeze instead of blasting A/C
- A guilt-free glass of wine or dessert because you know you'll walk it off instead of calorie counting and macros
Americans love to innovate.
Which works great for technology & business.
But people in SF are literally inventing a new kind of relationship every year (trouple? polycule?)
Meanwhile Europeans spent thousands of years perfecting the art of living.
So if you want to live well...
