What I like most is that it works as a metaphor too.
Two people. Two ways of thinking.
We spend a lot of time in near-alignment — close enough to feel compatible, different enough to never fully merge.

The sketches helped me understand the structure.

Two independent grids. Each with its own density, scale, rotation, offset.

I moved to p5.js to make it generative — so the near-alignments could emerge on their own, without me deciding where they happen.

The grids weren't touching. They were approaching. Rectangles from one layer would drift near rectangles from the other — briefly overlapping, then separating again. No merge. No collision. Just proximity. I went home and started drawing it by hand.

I was walking past a construction site.

Two rope safety nets, layered slightly off-angle.

I stopped. Something about the way they overlapped — not aligned, not chaotic — felt like it meant something.

That's where Inner Grids started.
