Back in the late 80s, we didn’t have podcasts. We had old‑timers telling war stories in the precinct muster room, same energy, no microphones, and coffee that tasted like punishment!
Prosecutors are renewing their push to identify an Asian man whose remains are considered part of the Gilgo Beach homicide investigation, Suffolk DA Ray Tierney said.
In the aftermath of convicted Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex A. Heuermann’s sentencing to life in prison without the possibility of parole, Tierney told Newsday that investigators plan to visit Asian communities in the NYC region, seeking DNA samples to help identify the man whose skeletal remains were discovered near Ocean Parkway in 2011.
"We're trying to identify that individual through investigative genetic genealogy, which means we’ve got to get more information about the gene pool," Tierney said. "Once you know who the person is, you could go back to their life at the last point, just before them disappearing, and develop leads from there."

LISK: Waiting for CODIS
What happens the moment Rex Heuermann leaves the courtroom after sentencing?
Now that he has been sentenced, his DNA can officially enter CODIS, the FBI’s national DNA database.
I asked Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney if there’s essentially a “button” someone pushes as Heuermann is led away in handcuffs to begin that process.
And what if there are DNA hits in places that have long been discussed as possible connections—including Nevada or South Carolina?
Tierney’s answer offers us an inside look at what happens next and how investigators could potentially uncover additional victims.

🚨 NEW: A source has shared this photo from outside Green Haven Correctional Facility, where confessed Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann is currently being held following his sentencing.
It remains unclear whether Green Haven will be his permanent placement, but for now, this maximum-security prison is where he begins the next chapter of his life behind bars.
Green Haven has housed some of New York’s most notorious inmates over the years including John Gotti, Charles "Lucky" Luciano, and Mark David Chapman (John Lennon's killer) and was once home to the state’s electric chair known as “Old Sparky” when New York had the death penalty.
