Betty Bayo had her reasons why she left her kids in the hands of Tash and not Kanyari, and it was not a mistake or a coincidence.

She left them where they had grown up, where they felt safe, where their home was, where their school, their friends, their routines and their memories were.

Tash was not just a stepfather on paper, he was the man who was there every day, the one doing school runs, paying fees at Woodcreek, putting food on the table, disciplining them, praying with them, nursing them when they were sick and standing beside Betty when she herself was sick.

A mother knows who has carried her children with love, and she knew that even after she was gone, Tash would continue to carry them as his own, because he had already been doing it for years, not for show, but out of genuine fatherhood.
