saw a girl post yesterday about regretting not building anything with her life. maybe the girlbosses had a point, she wrote. I’ll say it: nothing in my life has come close to the fulfillment of pouring myself into work I find meaningful and actually care about. but what people get wrong is it’s not discipline or grinding. when it’s real and when it’s genuinely yours, you wake up at 4am and work 20 hours straight and none of it registers as exertion. it’s bioenergetic. when you’re passionate about your work and when your body produces enough biological energy to support it, it moves through you like breathing. the career, your art, the business, it threads through delight and is fuelled by the love of the thing itself, not the theatre of suffering or the worship of struggle. like, I’ve worked without sleep but it feels like I’ve never broken a sweat; it’s all fascination. joie de vivre. and also it’s never too late. but it has to be the thing that burns in you. not something you’re performing or something you have to convince yourself matters. the thing you can’t stop doing.
