MVR 570 million. That’s what we spent on Bayraktar combat drones in 2024.
A professional deep-sea rescue ROV rated to over 600 meters, with sonar and a recovery arm, costs around $100,000. Some less.
Five people are dead in a 60-meter cave in Vaavu Atoll. We flew in Italian experts just to locate the bodies.
With that same budget we could have equipped every atoll in this country with underwater rescue capability and still had money left over.
So when does a country stop buying weapons to feel powerful and start buying tools to actually protect people?

4/ In my view, tonight isnt people saying they trust MDP. It's people saying they have had enough. Of corruption. Of resources going to insiders. Of being threatened. Of being dismissed as too ignorant.
MDP just happened to be the vehicle available. It could have been anyone.
i’m all for workplace grooming standards ... professionalism matters.
but do we really need dress codes this strict … esp for women? regulating it down to fabric choices feels less like guidance and more like micromanagement disguised as policy
this isn't the 18th century 😤
In early Edhuruge schools we wore what was customary in our island communities, free from formal uniforms. Boys wore a sarong with or without a shirt. Girls wore colorful dresses or hedhun buri blouses with feyli.
Focus was on learning, not on appearance or enforced uniformity.
Maldivian dilemma:
• Born on an island with <2k people
• Spend a lifetime building a house
• Kids finish O’Level
• Pack up, leave the house empty
• Move to Malé & pay insane rent
• While gov keeps building roads, harbours & flats in the same empty island.
ABSURD!
