🎉🐴 IT’S OFFICIAL: ROMANCH’S LAW HAS PASSED! 🐴🎉
Today, the @NYCCouncil voted to END horse-drawn carriages in New York City. 🗳️✅
After DECADES of fighting, failed bills, and too many lives lost, New York has finally said: no more. 💪
Here’s what Romanch’s Law does:
🚫 No new carriage licenses, starting now
🐎 Carriages off NYC streets by June 1, 2028
🤝 A transition plan for carriage workers

It takes an inordinate amount of wit and charm to best Conan O’Brien in a riff-off. The most an average comedian or host can hope for is not to embarrass themselves trying, which is largely how Kareem Rahma fared in a recent episode of his popular social-media series, Subway Takes. But toward the end of the interview, Rahma and O’Brien were shown up by a stranger named Debbie Shields who just so happened to be commuting on their train.
The 68-year old native New Yorker didn’t know what ‘SubwayTakes’ was, or that she was about to get pulled into a viral improvisational comedy bit. But thanks to a childhood spent performing in church and experience hosting comedy and karaoke nights, she says her instincts kicked in immediately.
This 'SubwayTakes' appearance isn’t even the first time she has been put on the spot by someone with a huge comedy platform.
Shields shares which comedian once pulled her onstage at Barclays Center, how she’s handling her virality, and whether she’d be interested in hosting a show of her own: https://t.co/WktKtAC7Fu
There’s a sari exhibit at City Hall featuring those worn by Mira Nair, a filmmaker and @nycmayor’s mom, and one worn by @CMShahanaHanif when she was sworn into the council
This story is horrifying. Every year, thousands of students with disabilities face serious school transportation failures, and this incident reflects a broader systemic crisis that continues to deny our most vulnerable students safe, reliable access to education.
Every child has a right to an education, and that includes safe transportation to and from school. I appreciate this reporting—we need immediate answers, accountability, and concrete assurances that an incident like this will never happen again.

I’ve been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank.
The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn’t a crime under any law I know.
Four of the five young American Barn Owls on Manhattan’s Upper West Side were happy to come out for their photo op and pose like pros! The fifth was a bit more camera-shy, staying tucked away inside the water tower, peeking out just once. 🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉💕

We were extremely honored to receive this proclamation recognizing our work for the city's wildlife during the inaugural Animal Welfare Chamber Event of the NY City Council's Animal Welfare Caucus.

Today @cmshahanahanif and I co-chaired a joint oversight hearing with the Committees on Disabilities and Civil and Human Rights.
While we heard about the city’s progress in protecting the rights of disabled New Yorkers, there is still significant work to do.
