Retail psyche 3/n : BASED ON A TRUE STORY.
I was 14 or 15 years old and while passing through marine lines station, would see a person (dealer) juggling a coin and hiding it below one of the three glasses. One could place bets after he stopped, guessing the position of the coin and if you got it right, your money would double. There was another person playing the game (player 1) and was constantly getting it wrong. The movement by the dealer was slow enough to guess and I started helping the player 1. I was then asked to put bets. While I didn't, some other people who were observing jumped in. As their bet sizes increased the dealer's hand movements changed till he got better of the other players and made good money. Eventually the other gullible players would leave. Next day it would be another set of travelers trapped in it.
Come to 2023-24-25 .. The dealer is the operator, player 1 is the operator's friend who releases the TIPs in the market and the other players including me are the retail participants. The dealer allows you to make money till the bet size goes up and you become overconfident. At the very moment you are all in, the operator changes the pace of his hands, till you are stuck, and you keep playing. Eventually you leave the game. Till another set of retail participants come in the new bull cycle.

PLEASE NOTE: A 27-year-old guy reading my views on a WhatsApp group, hesitantly approached me saying he is very worried and has lost all his savings to F&O trading. I immediately got on a call with him and my advice to him and to all youngsters -
1) if you have lost money, its fine, first suspend the F&O trading, the more you try to recover, the more you will lose and will have to be rescued by family, you don't want that. After losing a large part of wealth, there is no mental strength to play the game sensibly.
2) Never leave your job for trading, till you have money to live comfortably for 4-5 years and keep that money separately safe and not withdrawable by you. Ideally it should be job + investing.
3) You lost money cause of markets yes, but also because you lacked the proper training, experience and discipline.
4) This guy was trading, learning tricks from you tube. The learning has to be of 2-3 years before you play with serious money in F&O. It's like any other qualification we take.
5) So go back to work, rebuild the capital and rebuild the skills before you come back.
6) ideally retail without knowledge and proper experience should avoid F&O and focus on cash stocks.
7) My request to him also was to stay calm, talk to friends and family about it and stay strong. If anyone is going through trouble even approaching a therapist makes sense. There are years left to recover money and not take any regrettable steps.
8) he said he will paper trade now. Paper trading is good for learning, but again it will give him a false belief that he has understood the game and might take a plunge again, I asked him to not trade if he gets that urge.
