Loved getting to sit down with @Dr_Zakama and explore the important topic of BIPOC experiences of racism during residency interviews as discussed in my recent @NEJM pice: “I Can’t Breathe During Interviews: the Incomplete Penetrance of Antiracism.” 👀 👀
Do not miss this insightful piece by @medinmanhattan about the reality of being BIPOC in medicine. We have so far to go, and that journey starts with the truth and vulnerability of this piece https://t.co/laqFK7qKzc
It would be cool if for Mother’s Day we collectively worked to achieve things that would actually benefit mothers like childcare, universal healthcare, pay equity, and maternity leave policies that enable bonding and don’t cause harm. But sure, flowers are nice.
Please stop using the terms “difficult patient/parent”.
They are not GIVING you a hard time, they are HAVING a hard time.
Difficult situation 4 sure, but it’s (usually) not about you.
Try substituting “difficult family member” w “passionate advocate”. Reframing helps.
I GOT PUBLISHED IN @NEJM y’all! “As a resident, I have seen racist behavior in every clinical rotation. Sometimes I just want to focus on psychopharmacology, but racism calls me and I must answer.” https://t.co/xpPygZJhIy
