In a very unconventional way as Justice Dipankar Datta himself says, he opens his judgment by paying homage to his law clerk, Ritwik Deswal, who passed away four days ago and had done research work on the matter. May Ritwik Deswal’s soul rest in peace. Thank you, Justice Datta, not only for duly acknowledging Deswal’s work in the matter, but also for being so humane and unconventional (and one must be, when the occasion calls for it).

Logistics:

In my village: 
1965 to 1982 I walked daily 5 kms for high school and to bus stop for college and job. 
1980 I bought my first bicycle second hand. 

In Mumbai: 1982 to 1992.
From Anushakthi Nagar, BARC bus dropped at Dadar TT. 
Distance  was  2 kms to office at Tata memorial Hospital, Parel. 
Mode:
1. Rich colleagues took Black and yellow cabs alone. 
2. Higher middle class shared a cab. 
3. Lower middle class took BEST bus. 64, 65 and 9 were bus routes. 
4. 4 of us walked daily because there were 30 mins time available. All 4 had to save and send money home every month. 

Thane: 1992 to 2002
Daily Thane to Parel. ST bus from Tikujiniwadi and 2nd Class in train to Parel.
Because me and my wife had enough time then. 
First scooter bought in 1993.

Navi Mumbai. 2002 to 2022
Thyrocare made profits.
Could think of Rickshaw/ taxi. 
First car a Qualis at 2004 when I had 50 cr turnover.
Always then on had 2 cars for a family of 4.

From 2021:
We have 2 cars: MG EV at 20L and Skoda at 40 lakhs

Even now I some times and my children often see “Ola and Uber” as Luxury. For 90% of Indians still it is.

#Frugality made me what I am and till I die, will continue to mentor on frugality for the   “EMI Generation” to minimize it.

As she approaches the cashier she says, "Good morning, Ms could you please cash this cheque for me?"

Cashier:"It would be my pleasure. Could you please show me your ID?"

FM :"Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I am Nirmala Sitharaman , Finance Minister.

Cashier:"Yes, I know who you are, but with all the regulations and monitoring of the banks because of frauds, impostors and forgers and requirements of the legislation, etc., I must insist on seeing ID."

FM : Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am."

Cashier: "I am sorry, FM ma’am , but these are the bank rules and I must follow them."

FM ,"Come on please, I am urging you, please cash this cheque."

Cashier: "Look ma’am , here is an example of what we can do. One day, Viraat Kohli came into the bank without ID. To prove he was VK he pulled out his bat and made a beautiful stroke across the bank into a cup. With that shot we knew him to be VK and cashed his cheque."

"Another time, PV Sindhu came in without ID. She pulled out her badminton racket and made a fabulous shot where the shuttle landed in my cup. With that shot we cashed her cheque. So, maam , what can you do to prove that it is you and only you?"

* Nirmala Sitharaman stands there thinking and thinking and finally says, "Honestly, my mind is a total blank...there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can't think of a single thing. I have absolutely no idea what to do. I don't have a clue."*

Cashier: That will do, will that be large or small notes , Ms Nirmala Sitharaman ?
