Granted, all I know of this theory is from this podcast but that's definitely a must-answer question for the theory to work I would think.

@SamHarrisOrg @donalddhoffman If the argument is that the true nature of reality is too counter-intuitive hence the need for the interface then why is the universe producing conscious units that are so unsuited to their own reality?

@SamHarrisOrg @donalddhoffman Extremely interesting! But why would selection pressures drive development of an interface that is highly dissimilar from underlying reality? How is fitness optimized by such complex abstraction? Why wouldn't a simpler, more reality-aligned perceptual system be effective?
