@KannadaRepublic We admitted our kids to nursey class in school as per then prevailing norms as defined by the government itself. Please don't put the blame on us. We were in no hurry to send kids to school.
@KannadaRepublic Government rushed to implement 6 yr cut off for grade 1 retrospectively, without considering the fact that kids who were already in nursery, LKG or UKG will bear the brunt of the rush. Instead of doing it in one shot, it should be in phased manner as is done Delhi & Maharashtra.
@ANI The rule that a child must be 6 years old at a given point of time is absurd. Germany, for example, admits all the kids who will turn 6 in the year of admission. This way, no child will have to wait for one more year.
@ANI These policies should be implemented from the school entry date like preschool so that the entry is delayed from the beginning rather than midway.
#WATCH | Bengaluru | Parents of children who do not meet the Class 1 age cut-off criteria (6 years of age) in the New Education Policy hold a demonstration requesting the Karnataka govt to give a 90-day relaxation to ensure children do not have to repeat UKG or Montessori
A parent says, "It is not a protest but a request to the govt to promote children who have completed three years of pre-primary education to Class 1. Our children are not meeting the 6-year age cut-off under the NEP. For children, repeating a class will cause psychological stress. The institutions are open to it and don't want children to repeat, but we are waiting for the govt to give relaxation in the rule or expedite SEP implementation."
Thank you so much @DKShivakumar Sir for giving us your valuable time and listening to our plea. We are highly hopeful that our kids will not get to repeat a year.

@deepshanks023@SudhaSadhanand Thanku for voicing the concern. Request for relxn for kids who'll hv done 3 years of pre schooling (Nursery-UKG) for 1st std admission for AY26-27. The psychological & developmental impact on the child ll be immense if they've to repeat after undergoing 3 years of pre schooling.
Please let me know if we can connect for few minutes to discuss on this critical matter. If we can get your valuable time it will help a lot of suffering parents and kids.
We are just asking for this to be implemented or waiver to the batch until it is implemented so that this batch does not become the only one which is impacted. We are trying all means to help the cause and your support would be a blessing 🙏
This year too, we have several lakhs kids who will be negativity impacted due to this. While the EM did say on record that SEP recommendation will be followed for coming year but their recommendation of 3 months of relaxation has not been implemented yet.
@SudhaSadhanand Hello ma’m 🙏 I am a parent to a bright son who will be falling short by few days to be promoted to grade 1 due to the Karnataka age rule. I saw your video https://t.co/oZiKgxthj9 where your view was in favour of the affected parents and kids.
Lakhs of Children in Karnataka at Risk of Losing a Year!
Kids who started pre-primary education in 2022 are now being forced to repeat a year due to a new age rule (NEP) introduced in Nov 2022—AFTER they had already begun their kindergarten!
While the age relaxation was provided for the 2025-26 batch, please consider similar age relaxation or implement the SEP-recommended 90 days relaxation for the upcoming 2026-27 batch.
As parents, we feel that asking a child to repeat a year at this young age is similar to labelling them as having “failed”, which can impact their confidence and emotional well-being.
We are sincerely in hope that the department will consider this in the spirit of supporting children’s uninterrupted educational journey and development.
Our humble request is to adjust the system to the child, rather than asking the child to adjust by repeating a year.
We hope our collective concern will be considered with compassion and that a child-friendly solution will be found.
