🚨 #IFCIOR | REGIONAL MARITIME SECURITY ADVISORY UPDATE 12/26 | AS ON 240700Z JUL 26
The maritime security environment across the #StraitofHormuz, #GulfofAden, #BabalMandab and #RedSea remains HIGHLY VOLATILE, with concurrent hybrid threats, piracy activity and route-specific risks affecting commercial shipping.
📌 Since the advisory issued on 02 Jul 26, IFC-IOR has monitored 12 attacks on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz / Persian Gulf / Gulf of Oman area. One seafarer has been reported killed, one missing and eighteen injured.
⚠️ The Strait of Hormuz threat environment remains CRITICAL. GNSS / GPS and AIS interference and attacks on commercial shipping continue to affect navigational safety. Non-essential transit through the Strait of Hormuz should be reconsidered until the situation stabilises.
🌊 In the Bab-al-Mandab / Red Sea area, the situation has deteriorated following the declaration against Saudi-linked shipping. Since the declaration, 13 vessels have turned back without reaching their intended destinations, and on 23 Jul 26, one Saudi Arabia-linked tanker was reportedly attacked in the Red Sea.
🏴☠️ In the Gulf of Aden/ Yemen approaches, piracy and armed robbery activity remains active. Since 02 Jul 26, IFC-IOR has monitored 03 piracy-related incidents, including the hijacking of tanker ASANA and two suspicious approaches that were thwarted.
🛡️ CSOs, Masters and operators are advised to conduct voyage-specific threat assessments, verify war-risk insurance and Flag State requirements, maintain AIS/radar/navigation lights as appropriate, monitor VHF Ch 16 and promulgated V/UHF channels, maintain independent positioning capability, harden vessels, rehearse citadel and emergency procedures, and comply with BMP (MS) and recognised reporting procedures.
📢 Vessels operating in or intending to transit affected areas are advised to report to IFC-IOR and relevant regional maritime security centres and to report suspicious activity, attacks, approaches, GNSS/ AIS anomalies or security concerns without delay.

🚨 #IFCIOR Maritime Security Advisory (Strait of Hormuz) - 021300 UTC
📌 Transits through the #StraitofHormuz have partially resumed following recent diplomatic engagement; however, daily vessel movements remain well below historical norms. The security environment continues to be characterised by rapid changes, with restrictions capable of being imposed or revised at short notice.
📉 Transit remains significantly below pre-conflict levels. Mariners should note that the pre-conflict International Traffic Separation Scheme (ITSS) has not been declared clear of mine hazards by any competent authority.
⚠️ Two separate transit frameworks are presently in effect simultaneously, prescribing different routes and operating procedures. Compliance with one framework may not constitute compliance with the other. Neither framework has been endorsed by the IMO or any international body.
🧭 Persistent mine-threat concerns, GNSS/GPS and AIS interference, and the potential for rapidly evolving security conditions continue to affect navigational safety. Masters should maintain enhanced situational awareness and remain prepared for sudden changes in transit arrangements.
Shipping companies, CSOs and Masters are advised to undertake voyage-specific threat assessments; monitor VHF Ch 16 continuously; maintain independent positioning capability to mitigate GNSS anomalies; report intended transit to IFC-IOR; and comply with BMP (MS), recognised reporting procedures and extant IFC-IOR Maritime Security Advisories.

#IFCIOR Piracy Overview
Recent piracy activity indicates a broader and more adaptive threat environment across the Western Indian Ocean.
📍 A total of 9 piracy-related incidents recorded last month, extending from the Puntland coast and Somali Basin to Gulf of Aden approaches off Yemen, indicating expanded operating areas and greater tactical reach.
📍 Assessment indicates:
* 01 coastal PAG operating in the Somali Basin region.
* 01 offshore, mothership-enabled PAG operating in GoA approaches south of Yemen.
📍 Attack locations and sequence indicate probable use of dhow/ fishing vessel and skiff combinations, enabling deception, endurance and launch capability away from the coastline.
📍 03 hijacks/seizures, 06 suspicious approaches and 03 aborted/thwarted incidents indicate continued hostile intent with preference for opportunistic targeting of merchant shipping.
📍 The incident on MV AL MASHALLAH 1 highlighted the effectiveness of coordinated maritime response and timely intervention by Indian Navy, EUNAVFOR and JMSDF forces in disrupting piracy activity.
This trend aligns with earlier piracy advisories issued by #IFCIOR and indicates continued requirement for heightened vigilance by merchant shipping.
All vessels transiting the region are advised to:
✔️ Maintain enhanced lookout and anti-piracy posture
✔️ Implement BMP (MS) security measures
✔️ Review transit risk mitigation procedures
✔️ Report suspicious activity immediately to #IFCIOR ([email protected])

@ShivAroor This incomplete clip doesn’t really show what started it. Personally have experienced pathetic behaviour from this very airline staff. While it may have been the passengers fault but isn’t it true that any profession involving service demands a little more of maturity.
