The directive for all states to display the slogan “BE KIND TO ANIMALS” in English, Hindi, or regional languages on public transport vehicles, effective April 1st, is truly commendable.

Today, The Hon’ble Supreme Court directed removal of stray dogs from schools, hospitals, and major public transport hubs, and asked NHAI and other road-owning agencies to remove stray cattle/animals from national and state highways and house them in shelters. With respect, these directions are not sustainable, conflict with the ABC Rules, 2023, and are practically not implementable at scale. The affected parties were not heard. If you run, own or know an educational institution, please speak up and support your campus animals through ABC-compliant, humane management.

The Hon’ble Minister has taken several constructive and forward-looking decisions at today’s Delhi Animal Welfare Board meeting. We are optimistic that the department’s officers will implement his directions with urgency and effectiveness, paving the way for meaningful improvements in animal welfare across the capital.

Some salient points discussed:

1. Introduction of compassion in State Education Curriculum, along with other initiatives related to animals welfare awareness in collaboration with the @Dir_Education

2. Collaboration with @MCD_Delhi to create more awareness regarding the ABC Programme, vaccinating and scientific dog population control and humane treatment of community dogs

3. Advisory regarding people taking the law in their hands and those resorting to cruelty against animals

4. Regulation of pet shops and dog breeding institutions

5. Public awareness through 'be kind to animals' posters on all government vehicles

6. Time-bound implementation in the creation of 11 district SPCAs in Delhi

7. Creation of a 1962 helpline for animals

8. Creation of Animal Welfare Societies in all universities in Delhi, as per @ugc_india Directives

9. Sensitization workshops for government departments dealing with animal welfare related mandates

10. Vaccination and microchipping programme for dogs in collaboration with the @UNDP

Lightening response by the Delhi Government. ⚡️

Upon learning about stranded animals, Hon’ble Development Minister @KapilMishra_IND ji personally inspected the site and directed SDRF to ensure the cattle’s safety.

No cows are in imminent danger at the moment, but urgent arrangements for food and power are underway now.

Dogs, cats, and monkeys remain trapped beyond the floodwaters and will be rescued tomorrow as per the Minister’s orders.

Compassion in action - because every life counts.
