after years of starved & traumatised girls dominating, seeing alysa stand atop the olympic podium because she WANTS to be there and for the love of skating and nothing else… is so powerful
assuming reports about ice quality are true there’s something poetic about Misha winning his Olympic gold medal on rough sketchy ice like what he would have encountered at his first ice rink outdoor in Kazakstan
I do expect ilia to be able to rally from this and go back to his usual performances, but I fear everyone being like “it’s ok he’ll just be like nathan and win everything for 4 years including the next Olympics!” may actually be putting some other weird pressure on him
Yuma Kagiyama on Ilia Malinin:
“It was surprising and rare, something unexpected for sure. But considering how tightly packed his schedule was - skating in the team event's short and free programs, as well as the individual event's short and free programs - it’s impressive that he persevered. He carried immeasurable pressure, with the entire world expecting him to take the gold medal. I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of tension he felt. I think he must feel deeply disappointed right now, but for someone competing in his first Olympics and skating four routines, I really admire what he achieved.”

Back in 2018, Nathan Chen stood where Ilia Malinin stands now: facing the pressure, the expectations, and the spotlight of the world. Nathan’s journey proved that one moment doesn’t define you; resilience, growth, and belief do.
The story isn’t over, it’s only just beginning. ✨
