🚨🔵Ex-PGMOL chief reveals why Chelsea were not awarded a penalty

According to former PGMOL chief and FIFA referee Keith Hackett, the decision not to give Chelsea a penalty was correct because there was not enough evidence that the ball actually struck Ajayi’s hand.

Referee Farai Hallam dismissed the claims, with VAR deciding not to intervene.

“It is evident that the penalty kick was not awarded because it is not definitive that the ball came into contact with the hand,” Hackett told Football Insider.

“So correct decision not to award a penalty kick. Clearly, had contact been made, then the extended arm away from the defender's body would be a signal for the referee and VAR to award a penalty kick.

“No contact with the hand/arm therefore there is no offence - no penalty kick.”

Confirmed. Man City goal WAS a mistake. Pro Ref spokesperson said: “Following the incident in the 60th minute of Sunday's Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, we can provide clarification regarding Erling Haaland’s awarded goal.
“The on-field decision was offside against Erling Haaland – that was checked by VAR and he was found to be in an onside position.
“In the same attack, it was established that Enzo Fernandez did not play the ball and therefore that makes any offside offence subjective, however, on this occasion, the VAR did not recognise the likely impact of his position and should have recommended an on-field review.
“Contact has been made with Manchester United this evening to acknowledge what we deem is an error of judgement. A review of the incident will take place.”
