Dear @CMOTamilnadu,

It is with great pain and frustration that I am writing this.

In our area, there was absolutely no necessity for constructing a new stormwater drain. There was already a well established sewage canal, reportedly a British era construction, with a natural drainage system leading towards the Adyar River.

Around 15 December 2025, work on the stormwater drain commenced. In the process, the existing canal was indiscriminately excavated and destroyed, without apparently establishing what infrastructure lay underneath. Sewage was mixed with the Metro Water pipeline, roads were damaged and the entire neighbourhood was thrown into chaos.

Today, nearly eight and a half months later, the situation remains unresolved. We continue to face severe traffic congestion, water stagnation and a serious mosquito menace.

Most alarmingly, the Metro Water Department has still not identified or rectified the point at which sewage is contaminating the water supply. Consequently, residents have been unable to safely use the Metro Water supply and are being forced to purchase tanker water at considerable expense.

This cannot simply be dismissed as an unfortunate infrastructure failure. There must be accountability for how such a project was conceived, sanctioned, executed and supervised. If there has been corruption, collusion or gross negligence, the entire chain of responsibility must be investigated, including the concerned Minister, Mayor, senior officials, engineers, contractors and other persons responsible, irrespective of their political affiliation.

What has happened amounts to a Himalayan waste of public money and has caused enormous hardship to ordinary citizens. Beautiful residential streets have been destroyed, public infrastructure damaged and, even after eight and a half months, the project remains incomplete.

I had earlier approached the Hon'ble High Court through a PIL in public interest. Unfortunately, my petition was dismissed. I may not understand the reasons for that outcome, but I am certainly not going to abandon the issue.

If necessary, I will now pursue the matter in my individual capacity and seek appropriate legal remedies against the Greater Chennai Corporation and all other authorities responsible for the continuing hardship caused to residents.

I respectfully request you to take personal note of this issue and order a comprehensive, independent inquiry into the entire project, including the tendering process, execution, destruction of the existing drainage infrastructure, contamination of the Metro Water supply, expenditure incurred and the continuing failure to complete the work.

The people of this area have suffered enough.
Please support us in bringing accountability to this matter.

I want to share what I consider as an illustrative incident for today's Gen.

Last Friday when I was about to disembark from the flight in Chennai from Delhi a passenger from the other side of isle introduced himself as Dr Venkat Ramakrishnan and as a follower of my comments and writings.

When I asked about him he said he was a plastic surgeon in UK for 30 years and is back in Chennai to look after his nonagenarian parents. With that our conversation ended as we disembarked

But what he said -- he came back to look after his aged parents -- made me reach out to him. Yesterday I could trace him with the scrappy details I had got and spoke to him today. He practices as a plastic surgeon in Chennai and is a consultant in Apollo. His father Dr Venkatrasami was a famous plastic surgeon who established a surgery set up in Stanley Hospital in Chennai which is near industrial area where workers lose limbs in accidents calling for surgeries. A block in Stanley is named after Dr Venkatrasami.

Dr Venkat Ramakrishnan himself had a roaring pratice in UK. But the call of his duty to his aged parents made him give up that to come back to India two years back

I thought it is my duty as a journalist to inform the public about illustrative sons like him who value their moral relational obligations more than their personal career

It is those who like Dr Venkat Ramakrishnan sustain intergenerational dharmic responsibilities that keeps our relation based society functional. We are not and can never be a contract based society. According to SBI economic research 84% of parents live with their children in India. This culturally inherited social and emotional security is irreplaceable by state law or courts in our country.

I feel proud of sons like Dr Venkat Ramakrishnan who stand by the basic dharma of Matru Devo Bhava Pitru Devo Bhava
My salutes him and urge the young Indians to inbibe this irreplaceable cultural virtue exemplified by Dr Venkat Ramakrishnan

A fair observation. DMK did not lead in any of the rounds in Kolathur. This means, they did not beat the opponent in any of the group of booths per round. It is definitely a costly misreading of the ground for a chief minister’s constituency.

I have seen my leader fight vehemently for the underground cables which were a big issue during 2011-16 and 2016-21 as MLA of Kolathur leader of the opposition. Once we came to power he not only made sure he solved that issue but also made sure he found every available piece of govt land and created Padippagams, Hostels, Hopsitals, Playgrounds, Stadiums and what not !

Infact I still remember going to his office with him in Kolathur in 2011-12. I saw his eyes gleaming showing me around his office and telling me about how he is helping his Constituency and things that he wanted to do. I learnt from him and worked on Mannargudi.

Even after being CM he went there regularly and gave them every infra that they could ever dream of.
