With all due respect Mehdi we have been among the first public voices warning and calling for prevention (see below Nov 2023) - but mainstream media rarely takes notice of women’s activism or warnings.
And a key point to @UN_Women@unwomenchief - as feminist peacebuilders we actually care about the death of the men & boys as much as women and girls.
We need the gender disaggregated information to understand the horrors of how genocide is planned and perpetrated.
But it’s heartbreaking to think that the killing of boys and men is so expected or normalized that we don’t mention them. 💔

Today, we honor the courage of Somalia’s soldiers, women and men shaping our nation’s peace and security.

CMPAC joined 27 organizations, that include broader civil society, legal experts, and international human rights bodies, in a joint statement opposing Bill C-12 and calling for its withdrawal.
Despite this widespread opposition, Bill C-12 was passed into law yesterday. The legislation sets a dangerous precedent by limiting access to refugee protection, enabling the mass cancellation of immigration documents and applications, and facilitating the sharing of personal information within and outside Canada. It puts thousands of individuals at risk of persecution, violence, and precarity. These concerns were consistently raised throughout the legislative process but were not reflected in the final outcome, and key Senate recommendations were disregarded.
It is the government’s obligation to correct this legislation and ensure its immigration policies are aligned with human rights and due process protections.

My heart aches deeply. She was and remains an inspiration, a mentor, a force, a pioneer, a mother to many elements of the cause. Rest in power my beautiful beautiful sister.

Today, on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, we amplify voices from Galmudug, the first Somali state to pass a law banning FGM.

Speaking for justice should never cost you Canada’s highest honour.
Mohamad Fakih is being targeted with an Islamophobic campaign to strip him of the Order of Canada. Not for wrongdoing, but for standing up for Palestinian human rights.
His impact is undeniable:
✅ Created thousands of jobs ✅ Strengthened local communities ✅ Funded food, education & disaster relief ✅ Advocated for justice, peace & inclusion
This is Islamophobia weaponized. Silencing Fakih means silencing all of us.
✊ Stand with Fakih.

Over a year after its launch, Canada’s Gaza TRV program continues to fail Palestinian families. It has been marked by dysfunction, delay, and systemic discrimination. Today, CMPAC and our coalition partners @AmnestyNow@sheAssociates@CJPME@RRSocChange@UnitedChurchCda@ruralrefugee sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister @MarkJCarney@CanadianPM demanding urgent reforms to reunite families torn apart by Israel’s siege and attacks on #Gaza.
We are also releasing the Gaza TRV Reunification Advocacy Toolkit, which documents the failures of the program and equips advocates with facts, talking points, and actions to hold Canada accountable. This is a matter of life and death. Canada cannot continue to abandon Palestinian families to bureaucracy and anti-Palestinian racism.
