The joy of hearing him call a game with his best friend on earth, Duane Kuiper, was one of baseball's greatest gifts.

I live in the east, but I can't tell you how many nights I stayed up late because I couldn't stop watching and listening. Didn't even matter who the Giants were playing.

You were guaranteed to learn something you never knew. You were guaranteed to laugh. You were guaranteed to come back for more.

But beyond all that, Mike Krukow is a special guy with an immense heart, who treated everyone like a friend - and never lost his love for what he's done all these years.

Special. That's him. And that's us - for having been so lucky to be in his orbit.
