Sheikh Tijjani Guruntum has said what millions of Nigerians are feeling silently: any government policy that always ends with the masses suffering must be questioned.

Democracy is not dictatorship wearing agbada. Democracy means listening to the people. Democracy means that when citizens cry out, leaders pause, reflect and adjust. Democracy means government policies should serve the people, not punish them.

But under Tinubu’s APC, every major policy appears to arrive with pain first and explanation later.

Fuel subsidy removal brought hardship.
The naira float brought pressure.
Electricity tariff increases brought more burden.
New tax conversations bring fresh fear.
Food prices keep rising.
Transport keeps punishing workers.
Businesses keep struggling.
Families keep reducing their dreams.

At what point will this government admit that Nigerians are tired?

The people are not rejecting reform because they hate progress. They are rejecting policies that make life unbearable while the political class continues to live comfortably. You cannot ask the poor to sacrifice endlessly while those in power enjoy luxury, convoys, allowances and protection from the same hardship they created.

If this is truly democracy, then Tinubu’s government must listen.

When the majority of citizens say a policy is hurting them, leadership should not insult them with grammar. It should not call them opposition agents. It should not tell them to be patient forever. It should listen, correct and protect the people.

Sheikh Guruntum is right: we cannot continue like this.

A government exists to reduce suffering, not multiply it. A leader is elected to serve citizens, not test their endurance. Nigeria cannot survive another four years of policies that treat the masses like collateral damage.

Tinubu’s APC must understand one thing clearly: Nigerians are watching, Nigerians are hurting, and Nigerians will remember.

In 2027, every painful policy will have a political consequence.

This is the wicked irony of Tinubu’s APC: they removed subsidy from the poor, but they are quietly subsidizing the luxury lifestyle of their own political class.

The ordinary Nigerian was told there was no money. No money to keep fuel affordable. No money to protect transport fares. No money to cushion market women. No money to protect small businesses. No money to help workers survive the shock of sudden reforms.

But somehow, there is always money for the comfort of party loyalists, government friends, praise-singers and political youth leaders living far above the pain of the people they claim to represent.

That is not reform. That is class warfare against the poor.

Tinubu’s APC took subsidy away from the downtrodden and transferred comfort to the connected. The masses are paying more for fuel, more for food, more for transport, more for electricity, more for rent, and more for survival. Yet those close to power are still enjoying the soft life, still moving in luxury, still defending hardship from air-conditioned rooms.

This is why Nigerians must listen carefully to Atiku Abubakar’s message on subsidy. Atiku is not talking about returning Nigeria to corruption or waste. He is talking about a comprehensive, people-centered subsidy package that protects the poor, supports workers, helps transport, reduces pressure on households, and restores dignity to citizens who have been punished by APC’s reckless economic shock.

A responsible government does not remove support from the poor overnight and then call their suffering patriotism. A responsible government reforms with planning, empathy and protection. It makes sure the weakest citizens are not crushed while the rich adjust comfortably.

That is the difference between Tinubu and Atiku.

Tinubu’s APC removed subsidy from the people.

Atiku is coming to restore protection for the people.

Tinubu’s APC made the poor pay for government failure.

Atiku is coming with a smarter, fairer and more humane subsidy approach that will place ordinary Nigerians first.

In 2027, Nigerians must ask one question: should government continue subsidizing political luxury while the poor are abandoned, or should Nigeria elect a leader who understands that the first duty of reform is to protect the people?

Atiku is coming.

And this time, subsidy must serve the downtrodden, not the privileged few.
