डेयरी सेक्टर ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था के साथ-साथ महिला सशक्तिकरण का भी मजबूत आधार बन रहा है। महिलाएं पशुपालन और डेयरी गतिविधियों में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाते हुए न केवल पशुओं की बेहतर देखभाल कर रही हैं, बल्कि अपनी आय बढ़ाकर आर्थिक रूप से आत्मनिर्भर भी बन रही हैं।

भारत में करीब 3 करोड़ मछुआरे सीधे मत्स्य पालन पर निर्भर हैं, जबकि इसकी पूरी value chain से लगभग 6 करोड़ लोग जुड़े हैं। पिछले दशक में देश का मछली उत्पादन 95.75 लाख टन (2013-14) से बढ़कर 197.75 लाख टन (2024-25) हो गया है, जिससे भारत आज विश्व का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा मछली उत्पादक देश है।

#BlueRevolution, #FIDF, #PMMSY और #PMMKSSY जैसी पहलों के माध्यम से उत्पादन से लेकर इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर, वैल्यू चेन और सामाजिक सुरक्षा तक मत्स्य क्षेत्र को मजबूत करने के प्रयास हो रहे हैं।

“आज भारत 248 मिलियन मीट्रिक टन दूध उत्पादन के साथ विश्व में अग्रणी है। देश में करीब 8 करोड़ किसान डेयरी से अपनी आजीविका चला रहे हैं, जिनमें लगभग 1.5 करोड़ किसान सीधे सहकारिता से जुड़े हैं। वहीं, करीब 2.5 लाख किसानों को सहकारिता के माध्यम से मार्केट एक्सेस उपलब्ध कराया जा रहा है।”

“Indigeneity is not just relics of the past — it enriches our present and gives us a new vista for future,” said Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, reflecting on the significance of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2026. 🌏

At Gauhati University, the occasion was marked by the Department of Anthropology and IGNCA Regional Centre, Guwahati, with a celebration of indigenous cultures, traditions and histories of the region. 🎭

The inaugural session included addresses by Dr. Sapam Ranabir Singh, Regional Director, IGNCA, and Prof. Chandana Sarmah, Head, Department of Anthropology, followed by screenings of The Khamyang Story and Wangala Festival of Garos.

The celebrations continued with an exhibition showcasing Monpa masks from Arunachal Pradesh, Assamese puppets, and Milada Ganguly’s photographs documenting Naga tribal communities.

A day of films, artefacts and photographs offered a glimpse into the richness of indigenous cultures, and the importance of keeping these traditions alive and relevant for the future.
