“Indigeneity is not just relics of the past — it enriches our present and gives us a new vista for future,” said Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, reflecting on the significance of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2026. 🌏

At Gauhati University, the occasion was marked by the Department of Anthropology and IGNCA Regional Centre, Guwahati, with a celebration of indigenous cultures, traditions and histories of the region. 🎭

The inaugural session included addresses by Dr. Sapam Ranabir Singh, Regional Director, IGNCA, and Prof. Chandana Sarmah, Head, Department of Anthropology, followed by screenings of The Khamyang Story and Wangala Festival of Garos.

The celebrations continued with an exhibition showcasing Monpa masks from Arunachal Pradesh, Assamese puppets, and Milada Ganguly’s photographs documenting Naga tribal communities.

A day of films, artefacts and photographs offered a glimpse into the richness of indigenous cultures, and the importance of keeping these traditions alive and relevant for the future.

Celebrating the rich cultural heritage and traditions of India’s Indigenous communities. 🌿

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Regional Centre, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University, organised a two-day exhibition featuring Milada Ganguli’s photographic collection of Nagaland and masks of the Monpa community from Arunachal Pradesh, commemorating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2026.

The exhibition offered a glimpse into the diverse cultural symbols, traditions and heritage of Indigenous communities across the Northeast.

FYI: Religious masks used during performances by the Monpa Community are worn once a year, and they are enshrined in monasteries after the performance.

बीजेपी सांसद डॉ. अनिल सुखदेवराव बोंडे ने सदन में विस्तार से बताया कि पीएम मोदी सरकार ने किसानों को सशक्त और समृद्ध बनाने के लिए कौन-कौन से कदम उठाए हैं।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में केंद्र सरकार ने किसानों की आय, सुरक्षा और कृषि क्षेत्र को मजबूत करने के लिए कई महत्वपूर्ण कदम उठाए हैं। किसान सम्मान निधि से सीधी आर्थिक मदद, प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना से फसल सुरक्षा, सिंचाई और कृषि बुनियादी ढांचे पर जोर तथा आधुनिक तकनीक को बढ़ावा देने जैसे प्रयासों ने किसानों को नई ताकत दी है।

किसान कल्याण को केंद्र में रखकर किए जा रहे इन प्रयासों से कृषि को नई दिशा और किसानों को आत्मनिर्भरता की नई ताकत मिल रही है।
