#ByjuRaveendran has finally admitted to the inevitable - the #edtech company that he founded (that went on become India's most valuable Unicorn at $22 Billion) is 'worth zero' today.
While conceding to some mistakes - Byjus would still like to blame everyone and their dogs for the company's downfall. But the fact is that Raveendran built a house of cards that was held together by financially jugglery and by cheating parents.
This could have been avoided - if paying customers / govt regulators / or Raveendran himself had paid heed to the warnings that @MorningContext had been sending out for 4 YEARS. (some of the articles listed below) .... infact @sahaprd wrote a book on the scam - yet there was no course correction or breaks applied.
This was no 'accident' or 'unfortunate' business collapse - #Byjus deliberately destroyed billions of dollars of investor money / scarred the ed-tech industry permanently / led to 50,000 job losses / pushed lakhs of parents into debt traps.
Through all of this - #MorningContext was called names and accused of being 'negative' about the startup ecosystem.... i don't know how @akm1410 & his team does it.... in political reportage you get abuses and threats of police action....but with business houses - one big defamation case can blow a massive hole into a small publishing setup.
Kudos to #MorningContext - keep doing the work you guys do. You are the real Deshbhakts - brining out the good and bad of India's evolving business landscape. Here's hoping more people / founders read your stuff (and stay out of harm's way)
