A critical and much needed review that supports the use of trauma-focused therapies with patients at risk for suicide: Across the board, EBTs for PTSD reduce not only PTSD symptoms, but also suicide risk, with promising avenues for future work discussed. Amazing work! #CBTWorks

We believe this review & the findings can inform clinicians, researchers, and policy makers about what data are out there for these treatment options and related outcomes – especially for individuals with PTSD and heightened suicide risk #SuicideAwareness#PTSD#mentalhealth 6/9
We discuss ways to integrate suicide intervention into #PTSD treatments and this could reduce burden of treatment (e.g., time in treatment, cost) for both patients and providers as well as promote the inclusion of individuals at risk for suicide and who have PTSD in tx 5/9
4 studies examined #suicide-specific treatments, which were associated with ⬇️ in suicide-related outcomes, but showed mixed results for #PTSD symptoms. These therapies included Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention, PACT, and DBT.

When looking at combined #PTSD & #suicide treatments, we found 6 studies and they were associated with ⬇️ in PTSD and suicide-related outcomes. Most of these had either sequential or integrative combinations of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and exposure therapy (like DBT-PE) 3/9
