@holland_tom I agree that shared ritualistic activities do bring cohesion to society, but Confucius knew that. Most people in Britain today either don't believe in the supernatural or are lukewarm on Christianity. Rituals must have meaning, that people will buy into.

Perhaps birthed by Christianity but evolved into a more intelligent way of understanding the world free of superstition and power structures. Thinking may evolve further but we can’t all pretend
