"It is my considered opinion that the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith is the most mature Confession of Faith that arose from the Reformation and Puritan Age."
-Boon-Sing Poh, A Model Church, 66.
This book about the theology of prayer is very helpful.
At the end, Gary Millar gives six reasons why western evangelicals don't pray anymore.
A surprising one is the availability of so much preaching on the Internet.
“When one church [receives] a member of another congregation without their consent or knowledge…such that are disorderly…or persons filled with prejudice… is enough to make men atheists or contemn all church authority and religion.”
-Benjamin Keach
@pastorgrumbles @SFrain12 What would you say if someone said the thing signified is Christ? Or that the Sacraments deliver the same Christ as the Word, but better than the Word?
2819 Family, this SUNDAY, JULY 6 we will observe an ALL CHURCH SABBATH. This intentional pause is a time to rest, reflect, and honor the faithful labor of our servant leaders.
There will be no in-person gatherings, but we encourage you to be still, seek the Lord, and enjoy His presence.
We’ll gather again the following Sunday and we can’t wait to worship with you!

Here’s the deal; I hear people say all the time that they’re amazed that anyone is still sexist in 2025 but it’s actually quite simple.
The more women are put into positions that are contrary to their nature (politics, military, police, clergy, etc) and given microphones, the more it will be obvious how unfit they are for such positions.
Keep putting them there and people will become more and more sexist not less.
It’s inevitable.
Keach: If the Covenant for incovenanting of Infants was the old Covenant signified by Hagar, and that Covenant-Seed signified by Ishmael are cast out; then the Natural or Fleshly Seed of Believers are cast out, or not to be admitted into the Gospel-Church. (Light Broke Forth)
"Preaching is not designed to teach us something new in every sermon, but to put us in remembrance, to call to mind things forgotten, to affect our passions, and engage and fix our resolutions, that our lives may be answerable to our faith."
—Matthew Henry
The Lord kept His promise to Israel to give them the promised land forever, provided they keep the covenant.
They did not keep their promise to Him because they broke the covenant.
Therefore God kept His promise to them and cut them off both from His covenant and from the land.
How the church corporately worships (services, order, liturgy, emphasis, etc.) will most certainly form and shape what people think worship is, and who God is.
@espinoza_dy Compare 1 Cor 7.14 with 1 Tim 4.3-5. Several things are "made holy." Spouses, children, marriages, food. Same concept in both passages. Whatever is true of food in 1 Timothy is true of our children in 1 Corinthians.
If you really want to have an impact for the cause of Christ, you must play the long game. As a pastor, as a church member in a church, as a friend, as a parent: to be a real instrument of gospel change, don’t ever walk away if you can help it. That’s the way of Christian love.
