#EDU6558 As for the Levine&Pelt piece-- 1&2 seem true... power to learners! 3 seems likely to be blended-- some kids are still looking for the "coming of age" arc of trad undergrad. 4 sounds like CBL (growing in HE), &5 is how sec schools already prep our students in most states.
@LizPrybys#EDU6558 I completely agree with you! There are so many ways to monitor your usage if it's becoming a problem: https://t.co/e2kw3JXDCD Apologies for sharing a wikihow, but it has great tips!
@AmandaNaidech1#EDU6558 I think we talked about harnessing our web habits for "good" earlier in this course-- this is such a great example of that! Taking the experience that we crave and turning it into something beneficial outside of the "just for fun" aspect.
@stephanie_frad#EDU6558 Agreed! I'm much more interested in conversations about balance than an all-or-nothing mindset. As your linked article points out-- it's all about purposeful, mindful usage.
#EDU6558 This article talks about the difference between active and passive SM use-- I think this is where the solution lies. We're not getting rid of SM to stay connected with friends&family-- we just need to be more mindful of why and how we use it. https://t.co/3wqWKxfBpG
#EDU6558 The Prince Ea video to me seemed a very black&white lens of the reality of SM-- it warns of the dangers of disconnecting to real life interactions while being logged in... but provides no solution other than to completely disengage. The reality is so much more grey...
@stephanie_frad#EDU6558 A great way to provide a sense of agency to learners-- not only ensuring they're comfortable with the mode of interaction, but controlling exactly how they submit as well! I thought this article has an interesting tie in: https://t.co/e5ls9xm5Xk
@AmandaNaidech1#EDU6558 I love the private LinkedIn group as an option for different learning experiences-- it assuages privacy concerns while strengthening authentic sharing and collaboration that can be done among group members, & a great way to build habits for successful public use of SM!
#EDU6558 Plus I would be remiss to not mention worries abt privacy, tho minimized thru the use of an unlisted, locked group-- learners will still NEED a LinkedIn/will need to make one if they haven't already. To which privacy guidelines can be provided: https://t.co/EOA4AbnWUw
#EDU6558 The article suggests looking more at the extent of engagement, and even though it's referencing more profile-based interactions than inter-group interactions, that's the route I've been going, alongside with rubrics on desired attitudes to be displayed.
#EDU6558 Found a great article on using LinkedIn for curriculum-based activities-- it focuses more heavily on the opportunities but suggests formative/summative assessment as a difficulty, which I've also been struggling with from lack of reporting. https://t.co/0igMa2vxto
@AmandaNaidech1#EDU6558 This makes me think about the difference that lies between true collaboration and the dreaded "group project"-- dug up an article that positions collab as focused on process vs group work focused on product: https://t.co/rFDNnEikqO
@AmandaNaidech1#EDU6558 "Students enjoy integrating social network practices... as they perceived them as a tool to increase collaboration, active student participation and collaborative learning"Sounds like collaborative learning is the key for the student experience, regardless of SM use!
@livwris#EDU6558 Context, context, context! This makes me wonder how the constructivist angle can be leveraged using SM... found this book examining just that https://t.co/4SnXI0kQ6O but not seeing it available anywhere!
@marcvitag#EDU6558 I love this concept! Creating a comfortable and familiar "classroom" environment through SM is an interesting thought-- we'd have to be sure that our learners are comfortable on SM before acting on it with this in mind.
