Happy World Rabies Day!
Rabies is a deadly virus that's 100% preventable but also nearly 100% fatal once symptoms kick in. It claims tens of thousands of lives every year, mostly from dog bites in places where vaccination isn't widespread.
Here's everything you need to know to stay safe and protect yourself, your family and your dogs. Share this with your people. Let's end rabies together!
WHY RABIES IS SO DANGEROUS
Rabies attack the brain and nervous system, leading to death if untreated. Once you show signs like fever, confusion, or fear of water, it's too late. Survival is EXTREMELY rare. But the good news? We can stop it before it starts!
STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO PREVENT RABIES
1. Vaccinate your pets: Get your dogs (and cats) their rabies shots on schedule. It's the best shield for them and you.
2. Avoid wild or stray animals: Don't feed or touch bats, raccoons, or unknown dogs. Rabies spread through the saliva of these animals via bites or scratches.
3. Supervise kids and pets: Keep an eye on playtime outdoors to prevent surprise encounters.
4. If you deal with a lot of dogs, get pre-exposure vaccines if needed.
HOW TO SPOT A DOG WITH RABIES (and What to Do)
If you're observant, you'll know a rabid dog when you see one. Rabid dogs act weird. Watch for these red flags:
1. Foaming at the mouth or excessive drooling
2. Aggressive behavior, like unprovoked snapping or biting.
3. Biting things like trees, iron, statues and so on aggressively
4. Staggering, paralysis, or seizures
5. Fear of water (hydrophobia) or sudden shyness.
If you see a dog like this? Back away slowly. Don't run, scream, or make eye contact. Give it space and alert authorities (or community members, if you live in Nigeria). A rabid dog has to be put down. There's no two ways about it.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE BITTEN BY A DOG
Act fast o! Time is everything!
1. Wash the wound: Rinse with soap and water for at least 15 minutes to flush out the virus.
2. Seek medical help ASAP: Head to a doctor or ER immediately for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). This is a series of shots that can save your life if given before symptoms.
3. Get the dog quarantined and call veterinarians so that they can test it for rabies.
4. Monitor for symptoms: Even with treatment, watch for signs and follow up with your doc.
Remember, even if the dog seems friendly or vaccinated, get checked. It's better to be safe than sorry!
Lastly, vaccinate, educate, and share this post far and wide!

Key Points:
1. Commitment to Multilateralism: Nigeria reaffirms its faith in the United Nations as a vital platform for global unity, born from the need to prevent chaos and promote humanity’s redemption. The UN must evolve to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
2. Call for UN Security Council Reform: Nigeria demands a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, reflecting its population (over 236 million), regional stabilizing role, and contributions to global peacekeeping. This is part of a broader push for UN institutional reform to enhance fairness and representation.
3. Sovereign Debt Relief and Trade Access: Nigeria advocates for urgent action on debt relief and fair access to trade and finance, proposing an international mechanism to manage sovereign debt, enabling emerging economies to move beyond raw material exports and foster growth.
4. Mineral Wealth for Host Nations: Countries rich in critical minerals, like Nigeria, must benefit through local processing, investment, and job creation to reduce conflict and promote stability, drawing from Nigeria’s experience in the Niger Delta.
5. Closing the Digital Divide: Nigeria calls for a global initiative to bridge the digital gap, ensuring equitable access to technology, particularly for Africa, to harness opportunities and address challenges like misinformation and cynicism.
6. Peace and Human Rights: Nigeria emphasizes a two-state solution for Palestine, condemns violence in Gaza and Qatar, and underscores the importance of civilized values, tolerance, and multilateral efforts to resolve conflicts. It supports democratic institutions regionally and globally.
7. Climate and Economic Challenges: Climate change is framed as a security and migration issue, requiring efficient use of climate funds for education, resilient housing, and technology access. Nigeria’s economic reforms aim to promote growth despite hardships, as seen in the success of the West Africa Economic Summit.
8. Peacekeeping Legacy: Nigeria highlights its extensive participation in UN peacekeeping (51 of 60 operations since 1960) and its ongoing fight against insurgency, emphasizing that lasting peace requires values and ideas, not just military action.
The Netherlands / Rotterdam with a similar elevation to Lekki ( 1 - 2m above sea level ) commits €1.5billion annually to flood prevention alone. It's estimated that €32billion will be spent on flood prevention till 2050. The entire Lagos state annual budget including debt is €1.8billion.
If the FG makes money from the ports and coastal areas in Lagos, and lays claims to inland waterways and lagoons through NIWA, then Lagos must collect 13% derivation from the money generated from the ports to take care of itself. People like the clownish guy from Kano, will open their mouths to tell us that the FG is spending too much money in Lagos.
There is nowhere in the world with a 1 - 2m above sea level elevation, rising Atlantic sea levels and the volume of annual rainfall Lagos experiences that doesn't flood.
As I have advised earlier, Lagos needs to protect the mangroves and marshland in Ibeju and Epe axis, the Lekki conservation centre model should be replicated in 4 different areas, with lakes as temporary retention basins. Stop the sandfilling of the Lagoon, and remove all contraventions along drainage pathways. The goal is to ensure that the situation improves and doesn’t worsen.
The long-term solution is the sea wall and pump system which the state and even the country can't afford at present.
Don’t look at your trials and think no one else has it as bad as you. Instead, learn to rise to the challenge and pass each test with gratitude and humility, knowing the Almighty placed it in your life for a reason! Grow with each setback.
"WE ARE FINISHED"
We were not finished when a sitting governor quietly lodged state funds into the vaults of his own bank... A conflict of interest wrapped neatly in the garb of Money Heist.
We were not finished when a governor watched unmoved as doctors went on strike for nearly 400 days... Diseases festered, sicknesses worsened, and avoidable deaths became the state’s daily anthem. The supposed Number One citizen of the state, disguising instead as a butcher.
We were not finished when a guvernor doubled the poverty rate of a land famed for massive potential and boundless creativity. A leader turned poster boy of SAPA, crowned as its desperate ambassador.
We were not finished when a leading presidential candidate branded a simple election - A sacred democratic exercise - as a Religious War, in a nation defined by the constitution as secular. Simon Peter was known as the Rock - but this Peter? A religious arsonist fanning the flames of division.
We were not finished when you became the most enduring monument of mediocrity... The ultimate symbol of failure.
But when a First Lady - long celebrated for her philanthropy and devotion to noble causes - turned to her friends, allies, and loved ones, and said: “Look, Instead of lavishing fortunes on newspaper adverts, ostentatious gifts, and extravagant owanbes for my birthday, channel those affectionate gestures to a cause dear to my heart - the National Library...” Was that our finish line?
This in no way subtracts from government responsibility; rather, it adds - gifts that could have been her private indulgence, converted into a public treasure.
And the First Lady’s noble gesture is hardly novel. We’ve seen citizens of distinguished standing build roads, erect schools, and donate facilities to the government. But how would Peter know? Every act of his that mimics philanthropy drips with ulterior political motives.
Dear Leader, kindly stick to burials and graveside theatrics - and leave matters of national consequence to men and women with the breeding for it.
Good Afternoon Sir and Severally...
For those asking why the bees did not sting him:
1. Some bees are not as aggressive as others.
2. Watch the beginning of the video again and you'll see some smoke. The man definitely applied smoke to the hive before doing what he did. The smoke calms the bee down and masks the alarm pheromones that the bees release. Normally, bees attack en masse because the first bee to perceive the intruder releases alarm pheromones which attract the remaining to attack. As they sting the person, they release more of these pheromones on the person, triggering other bees to attack. In this man's case, the smoke has covered the pheromones and he is therefore not perceived as a threat.

THE HEROISM OF NIGERIA POLICE ASP DAN ZURU & OTHERS AT AGU CENTRE IN BENUE STATE
...How A Gallant Police/ "Anyam Nyór" Operation Took On Hundreds Of Armed Terrorists
In difficult times such as we are in now, we must not take for granted the sacrifices that patriots make in the line of duty, lest the motivation that such sacrifices should give to others be lost.
The supreme price that Police ASP Danlamin Usman aka Dan Zuru and others paid at Agu Centre in armed combat operation against Fulani herdsmen and their bandit and militia allies must not be in vain.
The security operation at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State last Thursday, 19th September, 2025 against armed terrorists by a detachment of the Nigeria Police and the local security task force code named "Anyam Nyór" is worth taking proper note of.
Insider accounts have revealed how the operation led by ASP Dan Zuru, was executed with the sort of bravery that should earn those who fell in action and those who survived it the garlands they deserve.
Dan Zuru had become popular within security circles in the state for his uncommon bravery and serial successess in combat operations, particularly in the Sankera area where he was passionately committed to the fight against banditry and herdsmen terrorism.
With him on the operation was another combatant police veteran popularly known as John Bushman and the Commander of "Anyam Nyór" in Katsina-Ala, Commander Mike Tuurga, leading dozens of battle tested troops riding on motorcycles and 3 trucks including a heavy calibre Gun-truck.
Acting on credible intelligence the operation targeted to dislodge Fulani herdsmen who had retreated to Agu Centre following heavy loses they had suffered at the hands of the same team and units of the the Nigerian Army Operation WhirlStroke in the Utange - Mbatyula axis of Katsina-Ala LGA.
However, the team was apparently not aware of reinforcements recruited by the herdsmen who were joined at Agu Centre by local bandits in the area and hired mercenary militia from neighbouring Taraba State numbering in hundreds.
It was, therefore, a near overwhelming force that Dan Zuru and his team came up against when they got into the engagement envelope at Agu Centre, with the ensuing firefight said to have been bloody.
The enemy force which was reportedly entrenched and lying in wait unleashed heavy calibre automatic fire including with AK 47s, SMGs and Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers (RPG) against Dan Zuru and his men who took cover and returned fire.
At this point professional combat training and experience is said to have weighed in favour of the gallant security forces, who though heavily outnumbered, were able to hold the terrorists and their allies at bay.
Dan Zuru, Tuurga, Bushman and a crack team around them are said to have kept the engagement envelope saturated with covering fire while he gave the orders for a retreat, and it was in the course of this that Commander Tuurga is said to have been shot in the arm.
The terrorists sensing a breach in the defence shield from the engle of fire earlier covered by the wounded Commander Tuurga had surged forward, but Bushman is said to have dashed forward, ducking under a hail of fire to take control of the Gun-truck which gunner might have gone down under the initial fire.
Bushman engaging the MG on the Gun-truck had reportedly wrecked havock on the enemy, giving Tuurga and others the needed covering fire to retreat into escape, with Dan Zuru still pinning down the main body of terrorists under withering fire.
It was when the chain ammunition feeding the MG on the Gun-truck had ran out and Bushman, without the assistance of a gunhand had no time to quickly enough break open and load a new chain-feed that Dan Zuru given him the order to dismount the MG and escape with it, which he did successfully, with his superior officer giving him covering fire.
