Today we lost more than a friend. The thalassaemia community has lost one of its strongest voices and most dedicated advocates. Muiz (Mui) @abdulmuizhassan was truly one of the pillars of our patient advocacy efforts and someone who stood on the front lines for our community with courage and sincerity.

Mui devoted much of his life to supporting and uplifting people living with thalassaemia in the Maldives. He served the Maldivian Thalassaemia Society in different roles over the years, including as Chairperson and EXCO member. But beyond positions and titles, Mui’s work came from something deeper — a genuine passion and a sense of responsibility toward our community.

Whenever someone in the thalassaemia community needed help, Mui was there. Whether it was guiding patients through the many challenges we face, raising concerns about treatment and facilities, supporting families, or pushing for better services and stronger support systems, he never hesitated to stand up and speak for those who needed a voice.

Many people may never fully know how much he did behind the scenes. Countless problems were solved quietly through his efforts, countless people were supported through his kindness and determination. Mui never sought recognition for any of it. He simply believed that helping this community was his duty.

For me, this loss is deeply personal. Mui and I walked this path together as advocates for the thalassaemia community, standing side by side through many struggles and efforts for our cause. We were also colleagues for some time, and through those years he became much more than a friend to me. He was family, a brother, a partner in this mission, and someone whose heart was always committed to the people we were fighting for.

His voice, courage, and compassion left a mark on this community that will never fade. The thalassaemia community has lost a tireless advocate, and I have lost a brother whose sincerity and dedication I will always remember.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept every effort he made to help others as sadaqah jariyah, fill his grave with light and mercy, and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus.

May Allah grant patience and strength to his family, friends, and the entire thalassaemia community who mourn this loss.

You may be gone from this world, Mui, but your efforts, your voice, and your impact will continue to live on in the lives you touched and the community you fought so hard to support.

I apologized for rude remarks, I will not apologize for being muslim, I will not apologize for having our own rules and customs, I will not apologize for our democratically elected president asking the Indian Military to withdraw their troops. Even if I disagree with the decision or not.

But whether our ministers said anything or not, Lakshadweep will eventually be pushed as an alternative because thats just in their interest. And its been in the making since a long time back. It will be a more appealing product espeacially to the Indian mid market because why not?

We are getting competition because of our excellence. It only makes sense. I don't believe its something for us to be frustrated over rather something to adapt to. Saudi and china are developing their own as well.

Whats important to me and what I will urge my government is to stay neutral and regulate officials' statements. And create for us a clear roadmap to further strengthen and adapt our country to the dawning new world.
