- No me oprimas.

Our Building elevator broke. Been broken for 6 weeks.
I live on floor 14.
Week 1, I was DYING. Out of breath every day.
Week 3, getting easier.
Week 5, I could do it without stopping.
Week 6, started TIMING myself.
Beat my record: 4 minutes 12 seconds.
Week 7, saw the SAME GUY every morning.
We nodded. Never spoke.
Week 9, he started timing himself too.
We'd check our times. Compete silently.
Week 11, there were FIVE of us.
All racing up the stairs every morning.
Still no talking.
Week 13, someone put up a LEADERBOARD.
Handwritten. Posted in the stairwell.
Current record: 3 minutes 47 seconds.
I had to beat it.
Week 15, I got 3 minutes 44 seconds.
Added my time to the board.
Next day: someone beat me. 3 minutes 40 seconds.
Month 5, we had RULES.
Posted next to the leaderboard.
"No running. Speed walking only."
"No pushing."
"Record attempts must be witnessed."
Month 6, the elevator got FIXED.
Nobody used it.
We kept taking the stairs.
New tenant: Why is everyone using the stairs?
Us: pointing at the leaderboard
New tenant: That's insane.
New tenant: checks watch, What's the record?
Month 8, we're doing EVENING RACES too.
People bet on times.
Spectators on each floor.
It's a whole THING.
Month 10, building management tried to shut it down.
Manager: This is a safety hazard!
Us: We're just using the stairs!
Manager: You're RACING!
Us: Prove it.
Manager couldn't.
Month 12, we have SPONSORS.
Local gym: "Official sponsor of Stairwell Marathon."
They gave us SHIRTS.
Present day, other buildings heard about us.
Started their own stairwell races.
We're organizing an INTER-BUILDING COMPETITION.
20 buildings competing.
My girlfriend: You know the elevator works now, right?
Me: This isn't about the elevator anymore.
Girlfriend: What's it about?
Me: GLORY.
Current record: 3 minutes 12 seconds.
I'm coming for it.

To all the Supermarkets and big commercial stores that operate 'Self Check-outs'....
You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkout now. Yesterday I went shopping at one such store and the lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone.
I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already filled my trolly, emptied my trolly and scanned the items, refilled my trolly, and so I just skipped the exit line and left.
I heard her saying "Umm - Excuse me “ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store.
You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be.
• I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you.
• If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine.
• Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities.
YOU DON'T PAY ME TO SCAN MY OWN SHOPPING.
YOU DON’T GIVE ME STAFF DISCOUNT FOR WORKING FOR YOU.
Signed…
