People say: “If there is even a slight chance of peace…”. But there is NO chance whatsoever. Not while Putin or many from his team are alive. Take my word: they will starve the entire nation and destroy their economy long before they start actually thinking about any form of peace.
Russian people are, like most people on Earth, the “follow the leader” type. I am less concerned about them as such. However, there’s literally nobody to negotiate with in the leadership, except a few economists and businessmen who have very limited influence right now. The rest are batshit crazy.

Today, Putin delivered a speech to mark Navy Day and, without realising it, articulated the central argument of the campaign to expel Russia from the UN. I quote verbatim.

‘After all, the modern world order took shape after the Second World War, after the Great Patriotic War. It took shape on the basis of the United Nations Charter, and that Charter was drawn up by the victorious powers – the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom. This Charter is the foundation of modern international law.’

That’s all correct. The UN Charter was shaped by the Soviet Union. Russia isn’t mentioned in this sentence — in 1945, such a subject of international law did not exist at all. Ukraine, however, did exist: the Ukrainian SSR signed the Charter in San Francisco and ratified it as a founding member state. Putin has, as usual, left out France and China, but let’s not get sidetracked.

‘And then, when the Soviet Union collapsed—one of the founding states of the UN, one of the founding states of the UN and a creator of international law—the system of international relations ceased to exist.’

Correct again. A founding state of the UN ceased to exist. This is not an assessment — it is a legal fact which the Russians themselves enshrined in the Belovezhskaya Agreement. And now the climax:

‘Why should Russia — no longer the Soviet Union, but Russia, which has lost its former potential — enjoy the same benefits as a victorious country in the Second World War, and began to rule?’

This is the best question Putin has asked in a quarter of a century in power. Indeed: why should Russia, which – in his own words – “is no longer the Soviet Union”, enjoy the rights of a victor and a founding member? Here is our answer.

Russia never joined the UN. Article 4 of the Charter sets out a clear procedure: an application, a recommendation from the Security Council, and a vote by the General Assembly. The Russian Federation did not go through any of these steps. On 24 December 1991, Yeltsin simply sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General stating that Russia was ‘continuing’ the USSR’s membership. A letter. No application, no recommendation, no vote. They just stuck a new nameplate on the chair — and that was it.

What’s more, Russia did not merely fail to follow the accession procedure — it is the only country in the UN that has not ratified the Charter. The USSR ratified it. Ukraine ratified it. Belarus ratified it. The Russian Federation did not. A state that has not ratified the organisation’s founding document has been sitting in it for thirty-five years with the right of veto.

In other words, in his festive speech, Putin personally confirmed our argument: The Charter was drafted by the USSR; the USSR ceased to exist; Russia is not the USSR, nor is it a victor or a founding member. This is precisely what we are demonstrating to our international partners in the campaign to expel the Russian Federation from the UN Security Council. Now — with reference to the original source.

Tokayev Urges Putin to Stop the War in Ukraine

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the 22nd Forum for Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in Omsk, called on Vladimir Putin to stop the war and return to negotiations.

"Perhaps it's time to freeze the conflict and return to the Istanbul agreements 2.0... All of this needs to be stopped. Because, in my firm belief, what is happening is beneficial and pleasing to opponents, both of Russia and the Ukrainian state," he noted.

Tokayev then stated that he does not understand the reasons for the conflict as stated by Russian authorities. "You know, from the very beginning,

I said that this is an interstate conflict. It is not about any kind of civil war. We have always treated the Ukrainian people, its culture, and its language with respect, and we believe that the nature of this conflict is not entirely clear to many, including us," he said.

Dürren und Überschwemmungen sowie die zunehmende Hitze und damit Verlagerung der Anbaugebiete in Regionen mit weniger fruchtbaren Böden führen bereits zur Abnahme der global verfügbaren Lebensmittel.

Das bei weiterhin steigender Weltbevölkerung, denn die Zahl der gleichzeitig auf der Erde lebenden Menschen steigt längst nicht mehr durch die Geburten, sondern dadurch, dass weniger Menschen früh sterben und heute mehr Menschen 70 werden.

Wenn es ganz schlimm kommt (und es sieht so aus, als käme es so), dann werden wir 2030 global weniger Lebensmittel verfügbar haben als 1980, bei rund 2/3 mehr Menschen.

Wer einen Garten hat, sollte sich fragen, wie man darin etwas zum Essen anpflanzen kann, um so durch mehr Eigenversorgung die Not zu lindern.

Es ist zudem zu erwarten, dass die Preise für Lebensmittel stark ansteigen werden.

In drei bis vier Jahren könnten einige Lebensmittel doppelt so viel kosten und von da an immer teurer werden.

Es würde sich besser anfühlen, wenn unsere Bundesregierung sich hierum kümmern würde, als in die Umbenennung des "Heizungsgesetzes" von GEG in GModG und ähnlichem unnützen Aufwand.

Es gäbe echte Probleme zu lösen. Aber Merz regiert wohl nach der Devise "Nach mir die Sindflut."

June 2026 was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine documented the toll: at least 293 civilians killed and 1,990 wounded in a single month.

After May set a four-year record, June exceeded it — up 10% from May 2026 and 37% from June 2025.

Behind the statistics are specific nights:

June 15 — Russia launched 681 weapons at Ukraine in a single mass attack. 11 killed, 53 wounded. Among the targets: the Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra, the Dovzhenko Film Studio, and a concert hall in Dnipro.

June 17 — another mass combined strike on Kyiv.

Throughout the month — relentless daily strikes on Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro.

The six-month picture is worse. In the first half of 2026, 1,396 civilians were killed and 7,978 wounded — 37% more than the same period in 2025, and 114% more than in 2024.

The primary cause, again: Russia's use of long-range weapons in urban areas. Missile and long-range drone attacks accounted for 45% of all casualties — 126 killed and 907 wounded — mostly in Kyiv and Dnipro.

And a new, grim record: near the front line, short-range drones caused the highest monthly civilian casualty count since February 24, 2022 — 89 killed and 588 wounded.

Mission head Danielle Bell described what survivors report:

"Many say they feel as if short-range drones are hunting them simply for doing ordinary everyday things — going to buy groceries, walking the dog, riding a bicycle, or working in the yard."

The hardest-hit locations in June: Dnipro (25 killed, 77 wounded), Zaporizhzhia (23 killed, 229 wounded), Kherson (18 killed, 236 wounded), and Kyiv (11 killed, 112 wounded).

The overwhelming majority of civilian casualties occurred in Ukrainian government-controlled territory.

These are not military targets. They are people buying groceries and walking dogs — hunted by drones for the crime of daily life.

293 killed. 1,990 wounded. One month.

Every number is a name.

Yes, and Beijing should be counted in. Russia and China reinforced their no-limit partnership just last year on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Xi and Putin held a phone call in which Xi explicitly reaffirmed the “no-limits” partnership. The recent reporting of China training Russian soldiers on electronic, chemical and biological warfare (in return for combat warfare information) has moved China far from being just a commercial partner.
