Every day dadi used to open Ram Charit Manas, place it on a folding wooden stand, read a few chaupais and explain their meaning to us children.

Even now people organise Sundar Kand paath and bhagwat katha in temples and homes. There’s also peace and gyan given free when you attend a prayer meeting of someone in a temple/Gurudwara.

यह शब्द 80 साल के रेखा द्विवेदी के हैं। रेखा 3 दिन से कुंभ में भटक रही हैं। बीमार हैं। सांस लेने में दिक्कत हो रही। हॉस्पिटल में भर्ती हैं। लेकिन उनका कोई अपना हाल जानने नहीं आया। ऐसा नहीं कि उनका कोई नहीं है। रेखा के 4 बेटे हैं। एक बेटा इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट में सीनियर वकील है। दूसरा कॉलेज में लेक्चरर है। बाकी दो भी आर्थिक रूप से संपन्न हैं। हमने सबको फोन लगाया। दो स्विच ऑफ मिले। एक ने कॉल रिसीव नहीं किया। चौथे ने उठाया भी तो कहा- हमें कोई मतलब नहीं..नमस्ते।

I don't know how many of you have noticed this, but these days, no one talks about academic achievers. All you see in the news and media is hype around the 'Vadapav girl,' 'Dolly Chaiwala,' 'Kulhad Pizza girl,' some YouTuber, Bigg Boss contestants, and so on. If you treat them as celebrities, every kid will aspire to be like them because they see what is being recognized and celebrated as important.

The previous generation saw IIT AIR 1 holders & boards toppers being celebrated. Nowadays, you hardly see anyone talking about the achievements of scientists, astronauts, or doctors. Naturally, kids will aspire to become what they see being acknowledged and glorified.
