I think about building a company through two curves: the resource curve and the belief curve.

The resource curve represents what the company can actually support today—capital, people, time, distribution and institutional capability.

The belief curve is broader. It represents not only what you believe the company can become, but also what you believe it should become: its values, its moral worldview and the obligations it chooses to hold toward customers, teammates and the world around it.

If beliefs remain too far ahead of resources for too long, you run out of money. You may sound visionary or morally certain, but you are ultimately just a smug idiot who confused conviction with reality. Beliefs that cannot survive contact with constraints are often just performance.

But if beliefs do not rise as resources rise, the company becomes hollow. It accumulates capital, people and power without developing a larger sense of purpose or a more serious moral framework for using them. It either stalls or becomes toxic—pursuing growth for growth’s sake because it no longer knows what its additional resources are meant to unlock.

The difficult part is that you have to express this belief curve differently in different contexts.

With investors, the belief in the company’s potential has to run ahead of its current resources. They are betting on your ability to close that gap.

With the team, the worldview can remain ambitious, but the operating assumptions should be almost pessimistic. You assume that things will take longer, cost more and fail more often than expected. That is how you produce great execution with minimal resources without abandoning the larger thing you are trying to build.

So the founder’s job is not simply to be optimistic or realistic. It is to build a company whose resources and beliefs keep expanding together: belief far enough ahead to create momentum, resources strong enough to prevent belief from becoming delusion, and values deep enough to ensure that growth remains worth pursuing.

Over time, the size of the company is the area created as both curves move upward—not merely how many resources it accumulated, but how much ambition and moral seriousness it was capable of converting into reality.

Who Allowed Pellet Guns Against Students?

Supreme Court hearing:

This hearing exposed something that should worry every Indian.

The lawyer told the Supreme Court that she had done a deep research from 1967 till today and could not find a single standing order or regulation of Delhi Police that even mentions the use of pellet guns or even mentions the weapon of pellet gun. Not one.

She said pellet guns were first used in Kashmir, later in 2016, there was a 2011 SOP by a task force headed by the Union Home Secretary and a 2016 high powered committee report. But where is the Delhi Police standing order authorising their use against protesters?

If such an order exists, put it before the Court. If it does not, then on what legal basis were pellet guns fired at students?

This is exactly the question every citizen should be asking.

Forget politics for a moment. Imagine your own son or daughter standing in that protest. A weapon that can permanently damage eyesight or any organ should never become the default response to students demanding to be heard.

Nobody is saying police should stand helpless. Police have every right to protect themselves. But there is a world of difference between controlling a mostly peaceful crowd of students and using a weapon whose consequences can last a lifetime.

The judges have now said they want to lay down a proper protocol. Whether pellet guns should be used at all and if yes, then in what circumstances.

Every injured student deserves an answer.
