Should You Combine Multiple Topics on One X Account? One of the most common pieces of advice for growing on X is: "Pick one niche and stick to it." There is good reasoning behind this. A focused account is easy to understand. People immediately know what to expect. If every post is about one specific subject, the algorithm and the audience can quickly identify who might be interested. But I don't think this is the only successful approach. A Different Perspective Instead of asking: "Should I have one niche?" Perhaps the better question is: "Can several topics naturally belong together?" There is a big difference. Random combinations rarely work. Natural combinations often do. When Multiple Topics Make Sense Imagine someone who writes about: Programming Artificial Intelligence Building startups Those subjects reinforce each other. Or someone who combines: Nutrition Strength training Recovery Again, they naturally fit together. Another example could be: Investing Economics Business Different topics. One underlying theme. The audience can easily understand why they belong together. When It Doesn't Work Now imagine an account posting about: Rust programming Celebrity gossip Gardening Football transfers Cooking recipes Each topic may be interesting on its own. Together, however, there is no obvious connection. Followers often subscribe because of one topic and gradually lose interest when most future posts are unrelated. The problem isn't diversity. The problem is the lack of a coherent identity. Think in Pillars Rather than thinking about niches, I prefer thinking about pillars. A pillar is a major area that supports the same overall idea. For example: Programming & AI → building software → automation → engineering Health & Fitness → improving the body → improving performance → long-term consistency Building on X → communication → branding → sharing knowledge Although these look different on the surface, they all support one larger idea: Building better systems. Benefits for the Creator Combining several related topics has several advantages. First, it allows you to share what genuinely interests you. Most people don't spend their entire lives thinking about one subject. Showing different interests often makes an account feel more authentic. Second, different topics can inspire each other. A programming idea may lead to a business idea. A lesson from sports may influence leadership. A concept from biology may improve software design. Cross-pollination often produces surprisingly original content. Finally, it reduces creative fatigue. Writing about only one topic for years can become repetitive. Several related pillars provide much more room to create. Benefits for the Audience The audience may benefit as well. People don't only follow information. They follow people. Seeing different aspects of someone's work often creates a stronger connection. It becomes easier to understand how that person thinks rather than simply what they know. For example, someone interested in programming may unexpectedly discover useful ideas about health. Someone following for fitness may become interested in AI. The account becomes a place for learning rather than a collection of isolated tips. Growth Perspective From a growth perspective, multiple pillars can expand the number of conversations you participate in. Instead of contributing to one community, you may gradually become part of several. That also increases opportunities for collaboration and discovery. Of course, there is a trade-off. If the topics are too disconnected, growth may actually slow because new visitors struggle to understand what the account represents. The goal is therefore not to maximize the number of topics. The goal is to maximize coherence. My Conclusion I don't think successful accounts need to limit themselves to a single niche. I think they need a single identity. Those are two different things. An identity can contain several pillars that naturally reinforce one another. In the long run, people rarely remember every individual post. They remember how your account made them think. For me, that's ultimately the stronger foundation for building a lasting personal brand. #branding #growth
